I think the basal breathing rate a.k.a "the pacemaker" is the prebotzinger complex in the ventral respiratory complex not the dorsal. The DRG does initiate inspiration but that's based on peripheral stimulation.

This is the most concise and simultaneously informative explanation I’ve seen regarding the respiratory system! It’s interesting because after many years of chronic pain I’ve slowly seen various types of therapists and isolated poor respiration as the cause, issues with the cervical spine result in poor firing of the respiratory chain (and the ability to modulate pressure in the thoracic cavity). One component a physio explained to me that’s actually also involved in breathing is the pelvic floor? Apparently that is almost synced up with the diaphragm during correct breathing but I didn’t see mention of it here so curious if that musculature also plays a role in respiration?

@YungNietzche I’m here for same problem!! The drs havent put it together so I’ve been trying to “doctor” myself for years too due to constant pain. Had trouble again last night w respiratory and I know my disordered breathing and pain are linked. Also have Dysautonomia, which is essentially a myriad but I’m focused currently on the abnormal breathing and low O2. I’d love to know if you’ve found any other info helpful? Thanks for posting here! Best of luck to you.

Nice explanation Dr.Mike Very useful and informative🌺🌺 What about peripheral chemoreceptors.
@MikeB-sp6gp
3 жыл бұрын
So chemoreceptors to regulate resp rate and baroreceptors to regulate BP are right next to each other in the carotids and carotid sinuses, and are all innervated by CN9? And chemoreceptors to regulate resp rate and baroreceptors to regulate BP are right next to each other in the aortic arch and are innervated by the vagus nerve? Wow. I imagine that these are great places to do this because of the proximity of the carotids to the brain, and the central role to the aortic arch to the whole body. Any thing else to be thinking about here? Dr. Mike, in addition to looking great in glasses, your lectures are so economical, clear and fun-- they're been invaluable to me (and obviously a lot of other people).

I've been diagnosed with Biot Pattern central sleep apnea, even though I don't consume opioids. I think I messed up my neural breathing controls when I took Rohypnol for "recreation" once (it wasn't fun at all). It was the first time I felt a sort of pleasure when not breathing during sleep. Now when I'm falling asleep I feel I get short breath paralysis, and I haven't had a resftul sleep in ages. Been suffering from CFS since. Anyone with any suggestions? Would really appreciate!!
