Tekking recently did a poll on best arc in the series and I was so hard pressed between my personal favorite arc (skypieia) along with the big ones - marineford, impel down, wano, Enies lobby - but I ultimately decided on Water 7 as the objective best arc in the series. I really don’t think the writing for the manga every got better than here in this arc and the saga that spanned the sea train water 7 Enies lobby and post Enies lobby is still the true peak of one piece to me.

Skypiea introduced us to several enemies (Blackbeard, Doflamingo, The Gorosei) & essentially was where much of the overarching plot of the series started. The Sky Island itself was thematic & ended up foreshadowing so much. Even the Going Merry's death started there. More recent arcs like Wano really changed the way fans viewed Skypiea.

@@nadrewod999 That's more like having your arm or leg broken. Skypeia though the Klabaterman actually appeared after much more damage was taken which is more like a lung being broken. This was the first time I felt they were in real danger because with everything that was happening, It got worse to all of them. The Merry dying, their money being robbed, Usopp leaving, Robin's "betrayal" and all of them being accused of trying to kill Iceburg. I think that everything was well written/built too. I think it really changed my perspective of the manga/anime as I got to see everyone with other eyes and I learned that the real enemy is the Government, that this is not only the story about a group of people trying to make their dreams come true. This was the first arc that made me cry too with Enies Lobby. Usopp vs Luffy, Robin's story, when she says she wants to live and the Merry's death. Oda was a genius building this Saga.

I think you missed the point of Usopp’s reason for dueling Luffy. Usopp is known for his grand talk of being brave warrior of the sea. However from the start until that point Usopp’s fighting capability didnt grow unlike monster trio. And he is very aware of his weakness. When Merry was diagnosed as unfixable, it drew parallel with Usopp and his unfixable weakness. When Luffy decides to abandon Merry, in Usopp’s mind Luffy will abandon him in future too. But Usopp was wrong. He is capable of becoming brave warrior of the sea, and even if he wasn’t Lufy would never abandon his friends. Usopp realizes this and apologizes, and Luffy bring him back.

There’s something so nice about Zoro’s subtle shift in characterization here, he’s the first character to really draw a hard line between Being A Group and Being A Pirate Crew, and the first character to say “hey if we want to go all the way here we need to be more serious about who we align ourselves with”, and it comes off very harsh with very emotionally driven characters like Chopper and Usopp, but in both instances he still deep down wants them to come back into his family and even bends his own rules as far as he can for Usopp at the end of the saga.

But his repeated whining and crying at only minorly fearful things after he's already faced much much worse is tiring. Zoro was absolutely right when he asserted that there was NO WAY he could rejoin the crew without apologizing profusely. Even in those moments he is pitifully lying to himself that they will all come "Beg him to come back" ridiculous. It's a pirate crew. Gotta listen to Captain Luffy bro. (Spoilers) If it wasnt for these conflicts, than the crew probably wouldve disbanded between the time skip in the 2 years they were apart, but because of these arcs and the resolve of the crew after losing usopp and the acceptance of usopp to return only if usopp tells him the truth and doesn't sugar coat the situation, it shows the amount of respect that usopp needs to remain part of the crew and gives an example to the others for how much respect luffy demands from his crew and how the crew and luffy as captain need that respect. This arc always divides, intrigues, and leaves a lasting impact in the OP fandom. No matter what it comes down to, I think the significance is all about the players. I don’t think anyone (The Straw Hats) behaved badly, all their actions are justified. I just think each members’ actions are understood based on the individual/fan. I think the older you are, the better you understand this arc. This arc was about trust, owning in your decisions, standing your ground, head vs heart, and coming of age. If there’s anyone who could’ve made Luffy first realize what it means to be captain, I’m glad it was Usopp. Because leadership is complex. Luffy needed a test (because, bruh, as Captain, what are you like when it comes to confrontation that you might not like? And how do you communicate to crew-mates who go left when you say right? You gotta own who you are and commit. The Pirate King-dream is no joke). And Usopp needed to confront his issues and understand if he was capable of trusting himself in order to trust and respect those he followed (because I don’t think he ever understood what it was like being in a team, since he’s always been alone, and abstract when he was younger. If you leave people behind, when you’re angry, you must realize who you’re hurting in the process. If he does the most, he’ll be even more misunderstood). In the end, everyone was able to commit and stand by their truth and beliefs, no matter the outcome. Zoro and Sanji also contributed to this. But I’m speaking of the first fight that broke the fandom. Also, Luffy vs. Usopp will always be iconic. It is such a paradox (the cowardly one was willing to go head to head with his monster-Captain. That takes guts. No matter the details and technicalities).

The Going Merry wasn't just a gift from a dear friend of his but it was very much a representation of Usopp's own self worth since he didn't view himself as strong & couldn't fight as well as the others so Usopp felt that his best role was to keep the Merry afloat. So when Usopp lost the money & found out that the ship couldn't be fixed he just couldn't handle it he didn't want to listen to the truth so he lashed out to try & cover up his own insecurities with his false confidence & very real rage.

Straw Hats avenge Usopp and oblitarate Frankys house. Few episodes later Usopp stand against Luffy, which was first real crew conflict. CP9 getting info for 5 years and realising Franky was the one person with false name who Iceberg didnt wanna meet 5 years ago. Pluto design. CP9 plan to eliminate Iceberg was also detailed. Franky flashback with Tom and mention of Roger. Spandam who is responsible for Toms arrest and we find out his father called buster call on Ohara. Usopp and Franky interaction and flashback on the Skypia where Usopp saw Marrys soul. Water levels going up once every year. And thats just some parts of water 7, Ennies lobby has even Spandam ranking CP9 members by some numbers (I forgot).

This is still my favorite arc because it's the first time shit really hit the fan for the strawhat crew. Up until now, they were always holding together and I always knew that everything will be alright in the end. But this time it actually looked like the group were at their absolute worst. Their ship was beyond repair, their money was gone, Usopp left the group, Robin "betrayed" them and was framed for the assassination attempt on Iceburg. And it turned out that Iceburg's workers were world government agents that were much more dangerous than the regular marine officials. The whole arc had me at the edge of my seat and I just kept asking myself "This can't get possibly any worse, right? How the hell are they getting out of this mess?!"

It's interesting that the two new Strawhats added to the crew after this arc were both older, experienced pirates. Guys who'd already gone through those kinds of tests before and understood what the crew dynamic needed to be for it to work. That's why I'm skeptical of someone new randomly joining the crew. There isn't enough time to go through the process of someone not experienced like Yamato adapting to how the Strawhats function. Learning how to be a crew member. I think Oda realized this too which is why he did a 180 on Yamato joining at the last second. Bonney has the same issue, since she was (technically) a captain but her crew is basically nonexistent and there's a fair chance she's really like 10 years old. Not really a promising prospect for recruitment. Momo and Kinemon have a country to rebuild. Carrot put in work in Whole Cake and at least had some experience with some kind of power structure, but she spent most of Wano in barely in panel and now got shuffled off back to Zou so 🤷♂ I could see Vivi returning to the crew given her situation. Her returning to Alabasta would only put the entire country in danger, and once Morgans decides to run the 'Empty Throne isn't really empty' story, he's in even worse danger than Vivi. Though he is pretty good at keeping ahead of trouble.

Personally, I see Jinbei as the perfect final member of the crew: a former member of the Seven Warlords, a Fishman Island native who served on Fisher Tiger's crew, a powerful and wise master of Fishman Karate, the man who brought Luffy back from the brink of death/insanity after Ace's death, and an expert helmsman who can truly utilize Thousand Sunny's full capability. Vegapunk has stronger ties to Luffy's dad than to the Strawhats (besides a passing interest in Franky's unique inventions), Kuma and Bonney are mostly doing this for each other since they're family, and if this is the Final Arc, then we won't have long between Elbaf and the end of the story.

yeah imma be honesty with you before i ever watched onme piece i thought it was going to be some goofy anime with a bunch of goofy powers. but i slowly realized it has ALOT of the same themes full metal alchemist had and they even expanded on some of them. one piece gets dark and it get serious despite how unserious Luffy may seem all the time.

Idk, I just don’t really understand fandom videos of one piece. I’ve read/watched all of one piece so far, and while I like it, I don’t find it to be all that amazing.

I disagree with the idea that there will never be another Water 7 as some day some series will try to copy it. Oda-san is intentionally writing Egghead to remind us of Water 7 & while it is still vastly different as the Straw Hats have grown considerably since Water 7 & aren't going to leave, there are similarities. You didn't talk about Ohara & the Buster Call in your video, although you at least said Robin was trying to protect her friends & the video was good.

Meh the problem is that Lucci should not have been the only guy at Enies Lobby, especially since they already knew Luffy's whereabouts in Water 7 if they can get all 3 admirals and every single vice admiral to show up for Ace's execution, they can get a few vice admirals or even just one admiral to be at Enies Lobby plus, I don't wanna hear anything about being occupied with an emperor, because you know what happened in wano when the government chose between Luffy and an emperor? they KILLED LUFFY

No one ever mentions Naomi's second job which is as vital as her navigation job. She's the quartermaster for the ship. That means she's responsible for inventorying the contents, and making sure the ship is stocked with everything it needs from food to ammo to repair supplies and other equipment and she also has the duty of deciding how much each crewmate gets paid beyond that, unfortunately for her none of them asked for money so she gets to hoard it all for the inevitable expensive emergencies that come up for the crew and the ship. Can't explain why they need to buy so many tiny bottles of cola when it would be massively cheaper for Frankie to make his own or God forbid he just figured out how to make compressed air based weapons instead of wasting his time on carbonated soda with all of the unnecessary ingredients it has.

"I cried. OVER A BOAT" - Ironmouse, Jan 18, 2020 - I believe these are perhaps the truest words that can be said about the story of One Piece and how well of a writer Oda is.

Please beware "emotional timing" in thy videos. Never change images faster than you would change facial expressions. Mind talso hat thy voice also carry emotion: the imagens shown shall join the rhythm. A video is a cadence. Do not "jab at" viewers. Do "illustrate to" viewers. Thnx4minding.

The arc that made me fall in love with the story and OP itself. The layers and depth this arc holds just gives a glimpse of how insanely great Oda's writing is. I don't mean to say the previous arcs don't portray this but istg when Usopp stood up for Merry against Luffy, that did sth to me. And it kept getting better and better. I have found Usopp kinda annoying before that but he absolutely won me over with this. Oda knew he was cooking the best meal and he didn't stop serving even after that! I really wish non-OP readers will get to experience the magic that is Water 7 someday (without any spoilers ofc)

Since the episode 1 one piece has some misticism wisdom and magic. If you are open to learn you will learn even from ants. I remember the moment when luffy cross eyes with nami for the first time. Sometimes in life, posibly throug the intuition i felt the univers plan and the magic of never knowing anything.

My thought exactly, water 7 is by far the only arc to push the character this far. Not just one of them, it's all of them. I could feel the emotion even when I read it again. There is too much sht at stake

You know what I thought was perhaps an intentional feint that got me on my first watch. I thought Paulie was going to become their shipwright through much the arc and then it ended up being Franky. That was cool.

Just literally finished re-watching this Saga, and definitely my most favourite so far. I got the chills during Usopp and Luffy's confrontations, to their fights with CP9 agents, Luffy's growth as a captain, and even the Going Merry is given a voice. My only nitpick: ever since Nico Robin joined the Straw Hats, her powers seemed to have gone done one level, while the rest went up. Heck, even Nami was determined to fight! I know, this is such a dramatic route for Nico Robin, but, I IMHO, she should've been fighting tooth and nail once the Straw Hats lit that World Government flag.

I'm detecting some very casually placed puns throughout the video, whether it's intentional or not. But my god, saying the Aqua Laguna brings a unique flavor to the city, is funny as heck because of its salt. Whether it's filler or not, it's still a joy to watch xD

Man... I can imagine this being either Season 4, 5 or 6 of the Live Action. They already planted a few seeds to lead to this point, the most important one being the responsibility of a captain in Episode 6 of the live action... I can't wait to see how they do it and we'll have a new huge wave of heartbroken fans, somewhat more normie fans but still fans, who'll be bawling at the breakdown of the crew... And then Enies Lobby will come crashing in like a wrecking ball. So basically, see you in 5-7 years when the live action gets to this point.

I personally love how all the events of One Piece up to Skypiea play out like a typical Shonen anime where the main protag is unbeatable and the team progressively get stronger and overcome every obstacle, and then Water Seven hits and everything hits like a slow tidal wave building up to Sabaody Archipelago where Luffy slowly realizes that hes completely helpless in the grand scheme of things.

I’m currently at episode 450ish. I’ve been slowly watching for a couple of years. I powered through so many episodes once I hit Water 7 and Enies Lobby. Easily the best arcs I’ve gotten through on the show so far. This whole Impel Down/Marineford arc I’m on is also going to be amazing though!

If only One Piece wasn't soooo extremely drawn out... The good bits are REALLY good but because every single character needs atleast 2 flashbacks & has to cry 10+ times, the emotion you might receive is faded. And you get some awesome bits dropped here and there that lead to some big stories, but as soon as you bite into these ( like Ace, Blackbeard, poneglyphs, etc.) you get pulled into yet another B plot. Like it's ridiculous to defend Long ring arc or even worse the sea people arc after the time skip...
