I also had 2 round buckets from Johnnys crack in the first year of use.

Oh no!! That’s great to know for future reference (not that I plan to go back to round buckets!)

Are the lilies in the fridge in water or dry until you hydrate them to open?

They're in water though I know you can store them dry too. I just haven't done dry yet though I'm at a point where I'm accumulating so many that I need to figure out how to do it lol!

I honestly don't know why folks use round buckets. If you can't afford the pronocas, then grab a cheap storage tote. Proconas, or like model, is really the only way to go.

I had that thought. Thanks for sharing. The vented sides are really great tho .

Haha free is definitely a selling factor! Not to mention you usually see round buckets at floral departments ;-)

Another hot tip that i discovered accidentally - proper flower fridges are supposed to be slightly warmer than normal fridges as some flowers don’t like it too cold. You can buy an adapter/thermostat from a home beer brewing shop that makes any fridge run at exactly your required temperature. It’s also going to be be cheaper and more environmentally friendly.

I have not invested in storage buckets yet so I can make some purchases of these procona ones. Blue Moon is my favourite, Eric and I have great taste in beer! I can also store my picked organic strawberries on top that I will be selling along with my flowers. Cheers!

I have to say that I have been disappointed with Johnny's buckets. Two of them came cracked and while they did send me new ones completely free of charge I have had two more crack over the course of this season. To be fair I haven't contacted them to see if there is some sort of warranty on how long they are supposed to last but I would have liked them to last a couple of seasons. The price was fair enough but shipping was kinda expensive in my opinion

Oomph, I'm sorry to hear that! Our co-op does buy from Johnny's and we haven't had that happen yet but I would agree that for the price you pay, I would also expect a few season's worth of use out of them! This is also why I like the proconas- the plastic is thicker and it has handles to prevent the cracking!

In business, efficiency is always sexy! That being said, it seems like flower farming is the new gold rush and the only people making money are the people selling supplies and courses.

For sure and I’m here to democratize as much of that information as possible! This is why my “merch” is bulbs and something that addresses a gap of smaller growers not having access to smaller wholesale quantities and my Patreon is for very specific info that is less appealing to the masses.

I have used small plastic trash cans. I am sure you can relate... Use what is in front of you! I like one that is oval shaped and handle cut out on one side. But it is small. Just a thought.

Yes! That's a great idea!! I love that you are repurposing what you already have. I made the plunge for the procanas bc I just needed to maximize every inch in my car and fridge!

You'll have to call Pagter if you want to buy from them directly. Otherwise, i would check out another retailer like Johnny's!

Am thinking that its a good idea to invest in the proconas. Ut also continue to get the free ones. I am under the impression that when delivering flowers to florists, that buckets freely migrate and I wouldn’t want my good buckets that I spent money on to change hands, but if I lose free buckets, eh no big deal. Am I mistaken in my assumption? Too bad you don’t have a spare small room in your home to convert into a walk-in cooler space with a coolbot

So when I deliver to florists, we always transfer to their buckets. I'm not selling in huge quantities to my local florist so that makes it easier. At the co-op, there is a rule that florists bring their own buckets. I would agree that I would never leave my proconas at a florist at the risk they may not come back. My understanding is that most florists will swap to their buckets though.
