We all have a natural need to feel like we belong and are accepted by others. This feeling is something we're born with. It's like there's a part of us that always looks for ways to connect with other people, whether it's through a hug from someone who looks after us or the fun times we have with friends when we're young. These moments make us happy and are as important for us as having food to eat and a safe place to sleep.
As we grow up, this need to connect with others gets a bit more complicated. We start to worry more about what other people think of us. Sometimes, we might even change how we act or what we say, just so others will like us more. This can make us feel like we're losing a bit of who we really are, just to fit in with others.
This situation can be quite tricky. On one hand, we all want to feel like we're part of a group and that we're accepted. But on the other hand, we also want to be true to ourselves and not change who we are just to fit in. It's like being at a crossroads and having to choose which way to go: do we keep changing ourselves to be liked by others, or do we stay true to ourselves, even if it means sometimes feeling left out?
It wasn't until you were at your lowest-tired, disillusioned, and feeling completely lost-that you saw clearly the mistakes you had made. You realized you had been looking for acceptance and approval in all the wrong places. You were seeking other people's validation when, in fact, the only approval you ever really needed was from yourself.
