For me, playing simple bossa nova songs on my classical is the best way to de stress. I've played rock all my life and am now learning new chords/patterns thru jazz on KZitem. When I get burnt out from "always trying to achieve" new stuff, I go back to the tactile way of 2 hands on nylon strings playing bossa rhythms. The more quietly I play, the calmer I feel. Then, in a few days, when I feel more sure of myself, I will pursue more challenging stuff. Learning new jazz language takes a long time and progress sometimes seems miniscule. Just keep playing.

I heard some bebop swagger coming from you have you ever considered you're better than you think ? the moment you loose yourself is the moment you find yourself - John McLaughlin

A good laugh at yourself helps. Be modest at where you are in the whole scheme of things. Enjoy life as it is. We’re only human, that’s all.

Thank you so much, Tina. Great video! I sometimes find it hard to explain to non-players (and even myself :)) why I need to spend a lot of time practicing. In Western societies, there is a tendency to think that everything should be gained fast with minimal effort. Learning guitar - or any instrument - is the complete opposite of that; progress is slow and requires lots of work. If you want to improve, there will always be struggles at any level, regardless of whether you are a professional or an amateur player-just different struggles. But I think there's also great value in being able to play and make music, regardless of one's level. At least that's something I remind myself of on the less enthusiastic days :) Keep up the excellent work!

Thanks for sharing this! Not enough people talk about the process of practice, with all the ups and downs and how to navigate it all! I appreciate your honesty, I feel better about how long it has taken me to make any significant progress with jazz guitar...Cheers!
