Persistency and keeping pushing is key here when you are passionate on this craft. Great advises here Alessandro, thank you for sharing the experience from one of your students.

The thing is, those who has a good mentor are the lucky ones. If you don't have anyone to guide you it'll take A LOT more time to try to figure things out on your own and you don't even know if you're heading the right direction. Animation is very hard, it takes a lot of feedback to be good and if you're not lucky enough to have a good studio where you live then chances are your animation quality is gonna stay pretty low for a long time. Ngl I'm jealous with those that lucky enough to be able to live in a city/country that is home to a good studio with mentors like Alessandro.

My mentor is in canada my last was in Mexico he was not very good. All you need is fast internet and reach out to Animators. The internet is all you need and maya etc. I meet my mentor twice a month work ft have 2 jobs and kids. Not impossible just hard work and dedication. My second job is overnight 4hrs sometimes 4-16hrs a week. My main job in vfx is 10-12hrs a day.

I loved this Alessandro. I think what you helped Matthew with is exactly what I need to grow. I doubt myself every singel time I start up Maya or Blender. I was away from all things animation for many years so I rather recently took a free beginner course just to get back in the saddle at CG academy and I passed it with flying colours. But I have no money to buy more. I really want to take the iA game workshops, but I simply cannot afford it. Right now I'm trying to animate a horse walk cycle. I've done biped walks runs in the past. But I find it extremely hard even though I have a tutorial by Beau Pratt to follow. But he's not using the same rig I have. But that should matter much, but I still struggle a lot.

thank you so much, what you say is so true, I started animation as a self learner and it was so hard for me to see that I was failing so much, but i could notice that just with more and more practice it was getting easier and better, i was doing that for like 3 years and still I feel like im not even half way through, but i knew it was going to be hard so i just have to keep trying, this year i was granted to be able to get into AM for a couple of courses and they allowed me to start from class 3, my assesment was that it seems that i love what i do and have the entusiasm to improve but i need more practice and time, and i could notice an insane boost in quality and consistency, wich motivated me to try even harder, not falling into completion, but in getting each shot a really good amount of time and always learning something through the process. Thanks for the video, it helped me to remind that i dont have to let myself being overwelmed by fear and keep practicing.

I clicked because I've been feeling like giving up on my Uni course. Thank you for this video. I wish my Uni had a teacher who focused on the fundamentals, we spent about 1 week on them in semester 1 and now we're doing acting in semester 2. I'm totally overwhelmed and don't understand the basics properly. Do you mentor or take on private students from overseas?

That's want I need help with and would happily pay for. I struggle with awkward motions, floatiness, and everything looking.....off and unnatural. I need to be *taught* by an expert to help me out and call out issues with "what and what NOT to do" with spacing, easing in and out, blocking, layoffs, etc. I mess with Source Filmmaker and Blender but never learned this kinda 3D animation stuff in school or elsewhere.
