I completely agree with all your suggestions. I always carry my pens in a pouch or case, and I make an effort to be aware of where my pens are.

A good rule for a fountain is when someone asks to write with it, do not give them the cap. Vanishing Point users - please refer to Samuel's Rule #5.

Have you ever lost a nice pen? If yes, how and where? And how did it make you feel?

Two lovely pens I have lost. The first, an upscale Papermate fountain pen flipped out of my pocket by an automobile shoulder strap in about 1987. Modern day solution: don't put it in your shirt pocket if you drive a 1985 Mazda! The second, a vintage Parker flighter (1960s?) I found in a consignment shop around 2000, rehabilitated, loved, and lost one day as a substitute teacher in an 8th grade science class, probably 2005. Modern day solution: don't carry a beloved pen in distracting circumstances. This is why God made Jinhao! If I will carry my m805 Stresemann, it is in my inner jacket pocket, for just the impressive presentation Mr. Naldi models!

Thank you very much for your advice and suggestions. I recently lost my Robert Stevenson limited edition which was a gift from my dad, I write a lot so after writing I just left it somewhere and couldnot find it… From now onwards I will try to follow your instructions so I don’t lose any of my pens again.

I've been using fountain pens since the first year of elementary school - over 60 years ago! - and I would like to add another tip to your very useful five: always keep your pen posted. Don't allow the pen cap and pen body to become routinely separated. Of course this means you should avoid buying pens which do not post, easily or at all. We were strongly advised to do this at elementary school, and for me it's been a lifelong habit. One of my regrets in acquiring my otherwise excellent stainless steel Lamy 2000 is that the cap is loose and often slips off. Very frustrating. Needless to say, this does not apply to the makrolon black Lamy 2000, which is perfect in every way.

Lost my Caran d'Ache Ecridor BP. It wrote so nice. Didn't have a pouch at the time, forgot it at the office and we'll, someone took it. Almost lost my 3pen wallet/pouch from Galen Leather. The best thing I did was to leave my business card in the wallet and a gentleman called me when he found it on a picnic table bench! Had a ST Dupont cigar cutter, a Pelikan, a Montblanc and a Parker in it too! Lesson is to leave your business card in your wallet.

All it takes to lose a pen, or have it stolen is one careless moment. That is why I don't let anyone use mine or leave it sitting on a desk. If you can't afford to lose a pen it is probably best to leave it home.

Had a company branded Parker in red with a retrofitted space pen cartridge inside. The pen was super nice, and I also used it in the field since it was water and grease proof. Lost it out at sea when it fell out of my coveralls pocket as I was rigging equipment. Oh well...
