Many different opinions on this feed and many of them are valid . As a brother with a small independent used car dealership my opinion Do not buy a brand new car cash unless you plan on keeping it forever . Anybody who walks into a Mercedes dealership and drops cash on a brand new s class has the cash to pay for it but if they've got that kind of money then they have the kind of credit to cover it and can get 0% interest. Drive the car until the warranty expires and then trade the car in for another one and so instead of spending 70,000 cash They spend $10,000 drive the car for 6 months traded in and do it again Now if you're dealing with used car dealerships, that's a different story. These dealerships bought the car from auction or from backlot or e-block or another auction website They paid a wholesale price for this vehicle and they're selling it at current market value But even then if they bought the vehicle for $20k and are selling it for 25k, you may get $1,000 off if you pay cash but you won't get anything less because the dealership needs to get paid That dealership is also paying interest on the car that they are selling you because they got it on credit and they paid a fee for purchasing the car that fee is determined by the market value of the car If you have the cash pay for it in cash. Trust me the dealership will take it But that only works up to a certain dollar amount

Never say you’re paying cash. Until you’re in the finance manager’s office. As soon as the price gets negotiated and agreed upon record the price that was said on your phone. Then bring up that you are paying all cash. Right before the contract gets signed. They won’t be able to turn back legally on what they stated the price as and agreed on. And the recording will be proof of the verbal agreement. If you bring up that you’re paying cash too early into the negotiations and buying process most dealers will add extra charges for cash handling. But the car is the dealership’s until a bank covers the financing or you pay in full with cash

Also don’t ever buy extended warranties as they are NOT manufacturer warranties they are serviced by a separate company and the cost of the warranty will also be financed for 5years and they are a rip off. You can Even get gap insurance way cheaper if you shop around and it won’t be financed. Dealerships make most of their money on dealer ad one that you DO NOT have to buy or pay for. Ex. 23k is advertised but after dealer ad ons it would be 31k. Nitrogen filled tires, LoJack, extended warranties, paint warranties( total rip off. Read the fine print), gap insurance, tint (way cheaper to get it done on your own and not financed for 5yrs). Do not do business with a dealership that asks you what payment are you comfortable with before they even give you a interest rate quote. They’re just trying to see how much they can add on and you’ll be happy it was the payment you wanted 😂 best thing is to shop around for a car loan on your own have a loan secured, find the car you like and tell them up front you want what is advertised and you’re not paying for any ad ons. They’ll be upset that you know your stuff but they must honor the advertised price and if they don’t have anymore of the advertised price they must take the ad down. They don’t want to do that they like fooling people

This is crap. Dealers take a cut of the loan they arrange for. They don't loan the money but they have "arrangements" with financial institutions. You say you want a loan at 4%. The dealership checks with their connections and come back with "your in luck. We got you that 4%." Problem is the dealer found it at maybe 2 3/4% then they get the 1 1/4% off the top. So you see they still rather you get a loan through them. I have a sister that worked with a Toyota dealership in Tulsa. She warned me about this before I buy with a loan.

I've been born and raised into the car business literally (family owns dealerships). If you really want a good price, finance the car through the dealership. Let them make their 1-2% in interest points (or a flat). Then, pay that car off the following month through whichever lender they used. Paying cash doesn't make them profit. They won't budge that much on the price. But when they can make $2,000-$3,000 in points from the lender, they will drop the price. Then when you pay that car off cash through the lender, the dealer will get a chargeback. You're welcome.

Was just looking at a truck and the sticker was 63k. I asked if they would take 60k. The dude said "oh no, we don't come off that at all, infact we have people offer us more". Then they were only offering 13k for my 2014 Ram 2500...when they didn't have a used truck for under 40k on their lot. Larry Hillis Poplar Bluff, MO.

Cash always gives you a lower amount. Your paying everything except the interest which is where the bank makes its money. Same applies for buy here pay here

If they ask you for cash, it's because you don't hang good credit, and the bank wants to make sure that you have money in your account. It's never any the money. It's about your credit, which is more powerful then money

Look for finance deals if you have cash and pay off the loan first payment, no interest and get a discount.

Except for 1 very important thing you've overlooked. Car dealerships are now struggling to obtain financing from the banks. So not only are those days not over but you're going to see them with increasing frequency again.

When you hit me with "I'm paying cash", I fire back with "would you consider LEASING the vehicle?". or "Sure we can discuss your purchase options,." Bottom line cash paying customers are givens and we'll let you think you're getting the "best price" but it all depends on the car if you are or not.

Some would argue you get a worse deal with cash… dealerships aren’t getting the financing kick backs and such… so they gonna make they money anyway they can….

I learned this in 2011. 35,000 down cash, didn’t mean anything, they get that wired to them super quick from the bank, that day I learned out and it made me kind of sad I couldn’t be a Baller. Lol

True about in house financing but paying in cash eliminates the time spent working on securing the customers loan from the bank. Skipping all that will get you a discount.

but it's still great to pay cash because you save all that interest! it stays in your account instead of going into thr bankers' pocket!

Why not! If you pay cash for a car you don't need a loan which means you don't pay the interest that comes along with the loan. Also if you pay cash in full on a car it's your car. Which means you only pay liability insurance if you choose to. With a loan, they require you to have full coverage on their car.

And. If you take that cash and make your payments with it on time each time, it's a slam dunk for your credit score. A more valuable win.
