Oh i got a good giggle when you said there is no way you could have had the birds when you lived in California because of noise ordinance. I just moved to a brand new subdivision in northern California and our HOA considers even just chickens as a exotic species so we cant have them 😂

I leave my chickens locked up till 4pm and then let them out. They usually lay by 4.

I see an Americana in the background of your chicken update, they lay green eggs. You can look at their legs and they will be a greenish blue color also.

The Ameraucana is a rooster. "Americana" is a hybrid that can lay blue, green, or pink eggs, but there is a purebred by a similar name that lays only blue. This guy is a lavender ameraucana.

Do you write all this info for your animals or do you keep it in your brain. Wow, you really have a handle on their well being. Do you miss California at all? I have lived in CA all my life and don't know if I could relocate at my age....

I do write down a lot of stuff. Some automatically commits to memory, but my phone calendar is a kaleidoscope of different colored tabs for reminders. Breeding dates, due dates, birthing dates, tracking heat cycles, milk pickups, appointments, etc. All go into my phone calendar. As far as missing CA...not really. There are some aspects that I miss, like the longer growing season and lack of MUD, and my custom kitchen in my old house. But the benefits of moving far outweigh what I gave up, so I don't think about it much.

When an intruder appears (mailman, ups truck, whoever..) our Guineas sound like Cicadas on Crack 😂 Re green eggs: Look at the hens combs..see who has a peacomb..peacombs are strongly associated with the blue and green egg genes. The ones with straight combs are usually brown or white egg layers, generally speaking. There are always rare exceptions lol.

I remember the time we met and you said you didn't want cows because you were afraid you wouldn't have time for the goats. After watching the cuddly goats, I kind of think you had nothing to fear! Hoping for the best!
