Me too. In fact more than an "S" shoud be totally "FT". And the best HD on track were their mid750 flat trackers, sadly not on roads like their chops and customs. Many countries in the world are more favorable to "small" bikes like 400-750cc. @@khaccanhle1930 Enfield's are P.O.S. @@benkrom2737 you must be an American. Most of the people who ride bikes as a form of transportation live in Africa and Asia. That's over a billion riders. For these people, 500cc is big and anything above 800cc is ridiculous. Most speeds are BELOW 45MPH, and on small tight roads. If any American company truly wants to sell large numbers and get a grip on the global market, they MUST make bikes 700cc or less. H-D launched the V-Rod around 2001, and by that time, that bike could generate a max. of 110 hp. The Scout was launched ten years after, producing a max. of 100 hp. It is Polaris that cannot keep up with H-D. It is so, that people is forcing a Sportster S vs FTR comparison in order to make Polaris look like a rival, but that's what they should have done when comparing the Scout vs the Sportster 1200: they should have compared the Scout to the V-Rod. I really don't understand why people are comparing the Sportster S to the Scout. HD clearly designed the bike to compete against the FTR. They come in at exactly the same HP, and exactly the same price, with very nearly the same technology features.... the decision between the two basically comes down to whether you like your feet in front of you or slightly behind when riding. I agree with MOTOBOB here that we really haven't seen HD's competitor against the Scout yet, and I suspect that when we do see that "non S" sportster sometime in the next year, the spec sheet is going to look very similar to what the Scout offers today.

The Sportster S seats in between the Scout and the FTR and I don't think it beats them when it comes to what the bike is all about. The Scout is a low to the ground high revving cruiser with great looks and great power. The FTR is a flat out tracker with looks to go along with it. The Sportster S looks good but it looks like it doesn't know what it wants to be. I would of been great to see this engine in a bike that looks more like a Harley 48. I’ve taken mine on overnight camp trips consisting of dozens of dirt road miles, ripped wheelies in the straights and leaned far enough in the Oregon mountains to make my inexperienced butt pucker. So I’m probably biased and am more than happy with my FTR. BUT! If I hadn’t fallen in love with it beforehand, I would honestly be choosing between these two.

But I think Indian is thinking that if you want a sporty ride on the road buy the FTR S if you want to a fastish cruiser get the Scout. HD is clever cause the new sporty S is bang in the midle of the tow Indian models in terms of power and price. So now it seems to be a golden option especially here in UK with UK prices! I still want to see the Bromx with the same power and torque figures as the PanAm and that will fill the whole left by the Ducatis Monster 1200! So far I'm loving this cruiser revolution and I hope this will lead to more intresting bikes. Remember the Voctry Octane maybe Indian will put this on the market as a new model. And you can't forget about the Honda Rebel 1100. With a better price ok a bit lest power but I bet in the real world it will be as quick as the American duo.

The indian scout bobber is a much better looking bike to me. The exhaust, the headlight, the seat all look like garbage to me on the Harley. I'm not a heritage guy, so that doesn't play into account to me. However, the Harley should have two front discs and has to go away from the odd styling. Indian can literally bore the engine out and maybe do a slight tune to be more than competitive with the sportster s. Also, Indian needs to go with an adaptive type front LED headlight on this bike, in which it is no longer a high price to provide these items on the bike, it's just a matter of these companies stopping overpricing themselves out of the market to a lot of people. Do they want to sell bikes, or have people simply doing test rides all the time and either praising the design, handling or shitting on the bikes all together? These bikes consistently are overpriced so they can't get the younger demographic to purchase them. Harley's pedigree is not a good one and Indian essentially has none. So they need to get a competent bike to market for the masses to build that appeal. You cannot use something like the Indian scout bobber 60, because people know full well they've settled, nothing more. It's like buying a v6 mustang, camaro or challenger. The real bike guys won't buy this. Just like the real car guys won't buy those.

The Harley Sportster S looks impressive, but sounds like a lawn mower. I have no idea what Harley was thinking. They used to try to patent their sound, when developing previous engines they worked on the sound for ages to make it right. And now they for some strange reason went with a V-angle and crank-angle that makes it sound like a basic Vietnamese commuter bike...if not worse. Why on earth go with that engine type if it makes it sound like one of the worst bikes in all of history? I actually think that many lawn mowers sound a lot better than the Harley. What a shame that they ruined that bike totally with that engine. I think it's one of the most beautiful bikes ever, but that doesn't help if the engine is unbearable.

I'd pick the Scout Bobber everyday of the week... But I would probably pick streetbob or low rider ahead of the Scout bobber.

Ride them both and you may prefer the Indian. And the HD is ugly as death. Reliability will almost certainly go to the Indian. As usual HD price points are always too high for the product.

Would love to have seen side by side photos of them both, but the Sportster’s exhaust is horrific. Indian looks more old school and why I prefer it.

Why would you make a comparison when there is no comparison the Indian puts out over 100 horsepower the Harley barely 50 more like in the 40 range what a joke next time do the new Sportster against the Indian that's more like it

The Sporster S is ugly with that exhaust. The Indian wins the tech area as well because just like cars and trucks, Stop teching them out to be able to way over charge!. The less the computer crap going on the better. The Indian is more of a cruiser than the new HD.

They still allow you guys to ride real motorcycles in the UK? Just give it some time - they'll figure out a way to justify banning motorcycles over there. Guarantee it

And I think I'd take either the Rebel 1100 or Triumph Bobber over either of these. Neither one directly compares in engine specs but that's only a matter of time before either one bothers to put in the effort for it.

Think the Indian FTR would have been the better comparison than the Scout. A big difference in money in the US!

Man, Harley didn't do much impressive decisions in making their modern retro bikes. Indian Scout for the Win!

Now Indian needs to put the ftr 1200 power plant in a cruiser platform I still choose the scout bobber over the sporter s due to looks, practicality and sound oh and in my country the sporter s is 9k more with that price tag could at least add dual disc upfront.

The Indian scout and scout bobber have been around for a while so I wouldn't be surprised if they have a slightly bigger engine ready to be used in these, perhaps around 1350 or 1400cc?

Without the looks, HD sucks, poor quality and less HP, the Scout bobber wins all the way!

Not wise I’d go for the Indian. I will likely sell my trident and buy the new Triumph Bobber, which in my opinion is the best looking cruiser out there.

Triumph bobber is one of the ugliest bikes ever built. Its the Bonneville with zero thought made to a chopped up rear end.

I bought my bobber for the looks and because it was stripped back without all the rider modes etc. Isn't that the point of a Bobber?
