Almost 14 years ago Triumph launched the Thunderbird LT. The LT sat right between the Heritage and the Road King in style, being some sort of British "cousin" of the classic American righway comfort machines. It was beautiful and capable of giving out 98hp and an enormous amount of torque (I can't recall the precise number, but it was bigger than Harley's) on a very low RPM. The engine was a gem, it could be reved to a righ RPM range because of its configuration. But... also because of that configuration (liquid cooled paralel vertical twin) the hard core cruiser/touring guy did not give it any credits... By that time I already felt for a while that if Harley had had the courage to develop a real touring machine with classic lines but using the V-Rod mill, tunned it to perform in the way the Thunderbid did, they would have a winner. Let's wait and see what's coming next from Harley's factories. That new Nightster may show the way of Harley's development, but is still too urban for my taste and its peak toque is too high on th RPM range. I'm waiting to meet the real American touring machine from Harley sporting a modern engine, but still capable of giving huge torque on very LOW RPM. Peace from Brazil. ✌

I've owned many motorcycyles since 1967 of many makes and models. I currently own a Tri-Glide due to my wife's many health issues. I stopped in a Harley dearlership yesterday to check out the new 975 Nightster. Harley had to get with the program or die, so we now have the 975 Rev MAx and the1250 on the Pam America. But I sat on a new Nightster and it was like sitting on a 8X10 plank of hard wood. The bike is extrememly small and the suspension seemed very stiff. A few minutes later I stopped in a Kawasaki dealership and sat on a Vulcan S. It was very confortable with a very nice seat, the suspension had some give to it, and the tank was just the right size. The reach to the bars was very confortable, everything just fit. So I ask myself, why would anyone spend twice as much to own a Nightster? A bike that is very small, hard seat stiff ride when you can buy a very comfortable motorcycle from Kawasaki? Sorry Harley Davidson, but if I can get my wife back on two wheels, it will be a Kawasaki.

I think the tank as a air filter is crazy because it looks like a normal tank but that's the only thing I seem to not like I'm sure it would grow on me ..... but then Again I don't see myself ever owning one so maybe the owners will have a different take on it ...... sure it will be just fine 🙂

This bike is fully loaded it is on the pricier side of things though someone could pick up a fatbob or low rider s for a bit more in my opinion this isn't the direction I would have taken to attract new riders but time will tell

I don't like that H-D only paints the tank. If I want a red bike the fenders should also be red.

@@twistieslayer3592 I won't buy that either. They want 500 bucks to change the gas tank. Funny how my SGS has a solid red color and was the same 500 and has 2 fenders 2 saddlebags and fairing same color.

Got a chance to sit on one at a local Demo Day. They weren't allowing rides on it, but I can say it feels so light when leaned over. Can't wait to get to ride one. Great video!

the 975 is replacing the 883 so this is the baby sportster. there will be a 1250 version later this year. it's nearest competitor would be the scout 60 and it's 12 more horsepower and 80 lbs less weight than the scout, plus having the extra electronic features and driver aids like traction control that the scout doesn't have it totally blows it out of the water. you won't be able to add all that to the scout for $3k or less. the sporster s beats out the scout bobber in more power and less weight, same with the pan America to the BMW gs. hd has a tracker and also a cafe racer coming aimed at the indian ftr and triumph truxton so I'm excited for the new performance model sportsters coming in the near future. the bronx street fighter was aimed at the ducati monster and ducati somehow found out the weight of the Bronx while it was touring Europe and they dropped the weight of the monster by 40lbs so the bronx lost before it was released so it's back to the drawing board and I'm uncertain if it is canceled permanently but it's definitely all the way back on the burner

I think this bike misses the mark, just because of the price. The Honda Rebel 1100 is the closest competitor with the exact tech specs and a price that is 20% cheaper. This is coming from a Sportster S owner.
