Yeah, these are one of my favorite Boston subway cars too. Love the sound of those motors, and of course Frank Oglesby Jr.'s voice completes the mix.

damn I remember when these came out and I was like 5. I used to take the blue line train all the time in when I lived in Boston, and I remember the 5 year old me being so hyped to get to ride on a new subway car. That was 11 years ago. Earlier this year in April I flew back into Boston to visit some friends and rode on the blue line for the first time in several years- not a single old car in sight. Kinda sad not seeing a car that was a huge part of my childhood. Even the red line cars have changed. The green line (which I would take to summer school back then) was still mostly the same. So many memories

I guess that's why they've put push-buttons beside the doors. Passengers have to press these to open the doors themselves. Means that they only open when passengers want them to. It keeps in the cool air in the summer (saving on air-con costs) and the heat in during the winter (saving on heating costs too)

I love that even though there’s a lot of visual differences, the overall shape and design is pretty much the same. I feel like other transit systems and even other lines on the T can learn from this (ahem: BART! ahem: ORANGE LINE)

I think it's 23 years. I think it looks a bit cold from the inside. The appearance of the old ones felt warm, nice, especially in winter.

I hear the orange line may be getting new trains too; sometime between 2013-2017. I think they will be a longer version of the new blue line cars, just like how the current orange line cars are a longer version of the old blue line cars.

Actually I think those buttons were put there for passengers who wanted to board the train at Bowdoin since the outbound platform can only fit 4-car trains there. =D
@wlctransit7593

According to the Boston Street Railway Association, that was the primary reason for having those buttons. Bowdoin was the only station that couldn't be widened for 6-car trains when the MBTA sought to expand capacity on the line.

I visit New England and Boston quite often. The new trains are like tin cans. The old ones are much more comfortable. In fact when I see new ones, i just stay and wait for an old one. I shouldn't worry though, the old ones will be around for a while. Just look at the red line.

people who are saying they like the old ones better are not thinking right, if we kept the old ones the ride wouldn't be smooth i mean look at them their old and rusty and not good, the wheels squeek, and the ride would not be safe, their trying to make things better for us and safer for people today, but everyone wants to reject the new blue lines, but guess what the future is coming!
