i bought one 6 month ago, i can share some long term feedback. I had a M340i touring before: drivetrain is spectacural, pushes almost as hard as the M340i. last 2 months i did 78% and 98% on electric only for 45MPG and 450 MPG..... Electric power is plenty enough to pass comfortably in town. It's a bit stiff on 22's. I'd stick to 21's. It's also surprisingly fun to drive on twisty roads for an SUV. My biggest disapointment is the comfort seats: i wish Joe did that review last year ! I agree they do not support for shit ! they are very good on the highway, but bolstering is inexistant. big WTF from me on this. So comfort seats: only go for it if you are a heavier person. Final verdict: i tried them all, as far as plug in hybrids SUVs go, i stand by the fact it's he best value for money and does hybridation really well. Would buy again, with sport seats. Oh i forgot, why does the engine sound better than on the M340i???? (europe specs)

The 45e gets 30miles of range in the United States, the 50e gets 40miles of range in the US, it is an improvement, but not as dramatic as you make it. The 50e comes iDrive8, which got rid of the buttons, the iDrive7 in the 45e was better. Make sure that you DO NOT get the 2024 MY of the 50e, there have been many problems with them (don't believe me, just go to the BMW forums). It seems that BMW has sorted some of the issues for the 2025 MY. Also do not get the 21" wheels, there are no tires for them (go to the BMW forums and see all the problems with 21" wheels). Either get the 20" wheels or spring for the 22". The 20" are the most sensible.

The boot space is exactly the same as the 30d. The 150 liters difference lies below the bottom shelf of luggage compartment. Tested both, 30d and 50e. The 50 is a beast and I drive it now as one of the best cars I ever owned. It is also to mention, that you can heat up and cool down the car from the distance because it is the PHEV. The average consumption is a joke for almost 500 HP. Comparing the 30 and 50 is just not fair - in my opinion :). 50 all the way.

Standard sports seats more supportive and adjustable? Our family friend has an M50d x5 (albeit a late pre LCI) with the solid back sports seats and they’re nowhere near as comfortable or adjustable as the comfort seats? Stiff backrest with no upper back split, less adjustment control. Not as nice headrest support/feel and narrower seat bases towards the rear of the seat leading to numbness in your backside/upper thighs on long journeys. They keep saying it’s the biggest flaw of the car, the comfort seats in our G12 745Le are among the very best i’ve ever sat in, and they’re to my knowledge the same ones in the X5 in the video? If you mean the optional ”M” seats like the X5M/F90 M5 it’s a different piece of cake however!

It's better IF you do long journeys. If you do mostly short journeys, the hybrid is better. I've had a Cayenne diesel for 11 years now and when we replaced it, we got a Cayenne PHEV. We don't do as many long journeys as we used to, it now mostly short trips. In 14,000 miles of driving, a little over 10,000 of that have been with the engine off and we are averaging 66 MPG. Know your use case. The 30d is exceptional...I just rented one last summer and it was outstanding. You can't go wrong, just pick the one that works for your use.
@fahedsayed2201
Ай бұрын
@@joetacchino4470 well i am still not convinced by the hybrid and i will tell you why. First of all there is an 8000 pound price difference. Not everyone can plug it in all the time and when you do drive around with a depleted battery you are carrying 300 400kg extra. Also i think the depreciation of the hybrid will be more severe. And honestly once out of warranty and something goes wrong with the hybrid system or battery oh my God i cant think of the costs. Btw a b57 diesel is much much much superior to the porsche diesel. Having said that hybrid is perfectly fine for lease buyers who intend to keep it for a couple of years only.
@bobbolitho2554

Great car, i have the last of the745le's, coming from a mapped 740ld I was sceptical, but a part from the silly fuel tank it is capable of really good economy. In the last 20 days I have done just over 2000 miles and averaged 58mpg. The main reason is you need to charge at night and whenever you park during the day, the one thing that you must and i empathise must is use the bmw satnav for every single journey, put all your destinations in at the beginning, home - wherever - home , this way the car will use electric/petrol to the best and always makes sure you finish your journey on electric. I'm very interested in getting the X5 50e next if i don't get the 750e. I do wish these roadtest could be done with real life circumstances, i have never yet got in my car and used electric only, you have a hybrid so use the hybrid.

My girlfriend has this car, with the sport seats. The seats are the best I have sit in. We recently went on a trip through Italy with it. I drove it for 5200km in 17 days. (I drive an M2, 2018 myself.) It's an amazing car for cruising. It’s super comfortable and definitely has enough power, even in the mountains. When driving sportily on small winding roads, it has excellent road holding. However, at higher speeds on the highway, it feels really heavy. There's a lot of body roll, you can’t steer it precisely, and it often feels unsafe. There’s also a significant issue with the hybrid system. It’s set too high (it switches to combined gasoline at 132km/h), which quickly drains the battery, resulting in high fuel consumption afterwards. I found that the best way to drive it is by placing the transmission in S mode. Then you can get over 3000 km on one battery and constantly drive in a mixed mode (battery + gasoline), which lowers your fuel consumption of 5 to 6L/100km. Over the 5200km I had around 9.5L/100km. The response time of the manual shifting with the paddles is also a real problem for me. Ok, I'm used to a DCT, but approximately 0.5 seconds response time for this is not okay. It’s a luxury to travel with this car, but driving it sportily at high speeds on the highway is not really recommended. Also lot's of problems with the software. Sometimes the screens come black for 5 minutes wile driving. The wind noise on both frond doors is absolutely terrible.

The RRS extended EV range and 50kw charging along with more luxurious interior and more imposing driving position has been very tempting, but the superior driving capabilities and sportier performance of the the X5 50e, plus I have never owed an X5 is swaying me towards the BMW. Big BMW fan for years - BMW do challenging designs that grow on you. But the recent generation of large BMW's has lost me - ugly as sin. Way to big and way beyond too heavy - 5 and 7 series being pretty much 3 tons the minute you add a few options. The price is outrageous. - especially give the rate that battery tech is evolving so the models are outdated and unsupportable after a few years BMW have missed a trick with tech fest overload - BYC are coming for them with more clever tech and about 1/3rd to half the price. Its a battle BMW cant win. BMW used to be all about "the thrill of driving" now it probably should be "the fear of BYC"

People crying about the price are wrong imo. This car is way better than previous generations X5 so you would expect to pay more. Plus the majority hybrids will be company car buyers, who couldn’t care less about the list price. For any of the other non hybrid versions, most cars are financed, so the monthly cost is what matters and dealers/BMW tend to heavily support discounts so the monthly payment aren’t as much as you expect.

New car pricing is unsustainable. As soon as people realise they can live without new cars, prices will have to drop.

3:07 those boot volume calculations are nonsense. I have a business partner who drove a 3 series touring (diesel) and upgraded to this 50e X5. The boot is way more practical and can fit a lot more then a 3 touring.

£100k for an X5 is mental, and then they give you a 'detuned' B58. Bar an X5M, this is top of the range and they detune. I think at the money they're asking, a full fledged B58 is warranted. I had a LCi X5 30d on loan, while my M4 was being serviced. Gorgeous cruiser. New iDrive versus the iDrive I have in my G82 (pre curved screen) - horrific experience. Too many menus and too much to learn. Just give me buttons. Agree on the seats - a bit wide and not masivelt supportive. That being said, very comfortable. Personal note, I hate black interiors - bland & boring. Gorgeous car, minus the rear light cluster - something about them just feels like they were thrown on from another car.

New I would probably look at a Range Rover. However there are many used options to choose from depending on what you want. Whether performance or luxury…. Some examples: Maserati Levante, Q8 (stunning car), GLE etc or if you like a comfortable saloon you get a decent specd M5/E63 or a Panamera, or RS6 Honestly with 100k there’s so much you can get. It really depends on what do you want, but definitely wouldn’t spend 100k on a hybrid X5.

A 'de-tuned' basic engine - But the reviewer does not give the actual power / torque figures. What he doesnt review is that when that Battery is flat after 50 miles of range - what is the performance then? It has a detuned 3 litre petrol as he says, that is then carrying all those 200Kg of batteries (3 average humans) around. So its 50 miles of excellence and then the rest of your drive is in a fat car with a detuned engine with a hugely compromised boot and less good handling than the 30D he reviewed. And you have paid £8,000 more for that car than the 30D he refers to. Less good handling, less comfortable, and with 'the same size boot as a 3 series estate'. Its £8,000 more for a notably less good car

i test drove this X5 50e and it does NOT stay flat in corners - in fact it seems to want to tip over even going in a straight line. BMW no longer caters to enthusiasts - they are a luxury brand now. BMW and Mercedes almost reversed positions when it comes to suspension. the new BMWs feel like Mercedes cars from the 80s while the new Mercedes feel properly German, at least the C class.
