Thank you for explaining the power difference between the cadences for each motor! As someone with the muscle fibre type more developed to crank it in a higher gear/lower cadence, it’s good to bear in mind when considering what I’d get out of each motor. Great content as always!

Yep Bosch could have 'copied' others and made it smaller. But the laws of physics then limit the power and torque. No, Bosch have come up with a very compact motor that beats the others hands down for torque and power. Don't like the way it looks? use a lower power unit. Seems a daft objection to me, it's not as if it's huge is it?!

After riding a Yamaha powered bike for years, I bought a Bosch CX bike. I couldn't live with the over-run, specially with changing gears up steep hills. I've always half-power-stroked the pedals when changing gears and the Bosch would just crunch the gears because the motor would still have power after I'd let off. I've gone back to a Yamaha bike.

After 2,000 miles of loaded touring and trails with my 50nm Active Line Plus equipped bike, I was talking myself into needing just a little more power. Performance Line ..probably not CX. However, after reviewing my data I used Tour mode the most and only 1% in Turbo (for steep hills). I hope brands that spec this motor are more affordable than the big "S" (and others) especially with the smaller battery.

Wouldn’t it have just been better to offer the full power motor with a 400 watt battery and a 250 range extender .80 percent of rides are under 2.5 hours so 400 watt is enough on a light 20kg bike. . Big weekends on the bike plug the range extender in . Job done
@1barnet1

It's possible to drain that 400watt battery under 2 hours. Just put it on turbo and go up the 2000m of elevation. It's also possible to ride 6 hours on flat sections without using any battery at all. If you can keep it above 25kph on the flat with your own legs. It's really hard to predict battery life for the customer as it varies a LOT with terrain.

@gedrot2486
Жыл бұрын
Sadly "light e-MTB" up to this point meant light weight and high end components on a full suspension carbon frame to get the overall weight low enough to actually be impressive. I would love to see a proper trail hardtail with a light motor + battery on an aluminum frame but I don't think we're going to get one, since the makeup of such a bike would push it well outside the price range where a large enough number people would even consider buying a hardtail. But maybe, just maybe, since Bosch can push out bigger unit numbers then Fazua, TQ, etc., there might now be an actual chance of us getting more affordable e-hardtails that are on par with modern trail HT offerings. Even if they end up being 1k-2k more expensive then necessary due to manufacturers feeling the need to make them carbon. Just please don't let it be a bloody XC hardtail please.

Anyone who can explain how 600W is a good thing for 55nm? As there are many many 250w options out there that already do 80+nm... Isn't this a step backwards? As nm is the force / power output u get... And the wattage is the consumption? Or am I totally going/thinking wrong here?
@1barnet1
Жыл бұрын
The Shimano EP8 and Bosch CX both do 500-600w peak. But european regulations limit their constant power output to 250w. More 85nm at 600 watts mean they can deliver more power at lower cadence. So the SX requires you to pedal at an higher cadence in order for it to be able to maximize it's power output. That is a downside in technical uphill sections. But can be circumvented with better gearing and better gear selection from the rider. In the end the power output is the same. So if you'd pick an lower gear it will go up just as fast. As shown in the video when he was pedaling at 120+.

I always 'spin' anyway be it riding my CX MTB or normal MTB. That's what proper cyclists do, spin. These people riding ebikes in turbo mode and peddling with a cadence of 30 are fools to themselves in many ways. They're not getting fitter, they're using battery power and they're straining and wearing out the drivetrain and the motor. Spin! on all ebikes, the power response and torque is better when you spin! You wouldn't expect your car to spin wheels at 30mph in 5th gear would you? nope, you need revs! Spin!
