Systems Biology Domain’s Professor Peter Meikle discusses the breakthrough ability to use AI-based learning algorithms to analyse and combine information from lipid species in blood samples to determine an individual’s cardiovascular risk.
“The technology we are using is a process called lipidomics, and so what that allows us to do is take the same blood sample you would normally give for a cholesterol test … we measure about 250 different lipid species within that single blood sample,” Mr Meikle told Sky News host Sharri Markson.
“We use an AI-based algorithm to combine all the information from those different lipid species into a risk score that is then better able to predict cardiovascular risk.”
