Very nice! It will be fun to watch your progress. I recently switched to Home Assistant and have been consuming as much information as I can. I've was running Indigo for 10 years. It was the first home automation software that I found that ran on OS X. HA is so far beyond Indigo's capabilities, it's not even funny. Congrats on the job with Nabu Casa and thanks for making these informative videos.

Nice pad! Have a similar setup to yours with ubiquiti cameras, etc. I went with an ELK alarm system. Alarm window, door, etc sensors are reported real time in HA so they serve double duty for automations.

Nice house! I should warn about the toeplate outlets in the kitchen but especially in the bathroom. In case of a flood it can be dangerous. You should mount it inside the cabinet and run cables through there. ;) But very nice work and well thought out!

If it's in a bathroom then by code they're on a GFCI which would protect in case of water. Mounting it inside would be a good idea however so that the lighting is flush and you don't kick whatever is plugged in.

Looks good! I don't see any crazy automations yet, but i'm sure they will come with time and actually building and living in the house. Cant wait to see the videos. I use the energy monitoring for dryer and washing machine (and dishwasher) in the same way and it's great. It seems like a stupid automation to do, but it's really useful and helps doing laundry more efficiently. And you don't need an expensive "smart" dryer/washer that might only work with online services.

Thanks. And yea. Currenting in the planning phase and slowly integrating. Laundry automations are crazy convenient haha. I agree!

Hi Zack! I can't wait to follow along with your journey. I would suggest a flood sensor in the laundry and possible furnace room. I had a small water issue when the laundry tub overflowed recently. I will soon have an automation to shut down the washing machine if water is detected on the floor, if all goes to plan that is!

1 year ago I had no idea what automation is. Recently, when my power supply went down, I was almost not able to survive in my house without it ;-) - no, all sockets are still with possible manual intervention but... Same for heating system but... So, one designing the entire home should pay as much attention for "plan B(when all is down)" as for the "plan A (when all is working)". Btw nice house

@@ZackBarett we mounted the TV on the wall to the side of the fireplace which is in a corner and another TV above the fireplace that's a Magic Mirror serving as a dynamic picture frame and shows weather, family calendar, etc - similar to what it sounds like you have planned in the main bath. I use the iFrame module for Magic Mirror to display security camera feeds when person "objects" are detected in certain zones and the Remote Control module to show/hide the iFrame via automations. Not sure if you're new to Austin but if so, welcome. We're just outside of the city.

Nice house Zack, congratulations! One question, you have an UDM Pro, but I saw that you are running Reolink cameras. Why did you go with that instead of Unifi cameras? And what NVR are you running with them?
@ZackBarett
2 жыл бұрын
Hey Dennis, great question. I looked into Unifi Protect but after doing some reviews with reolink cameras and testing their quality as well as watching Rob from the Hook up do many comparisons. I went with reolink for the whole house. I will be using their 16 port NVR

Nice man! I also have the S7+ and am a Home Assistant nerd. I briefly looked into the integration but it seemed quite annoying at first glance with having to use the janky looking Xiaomi app and such. Would you recommend it over the standard Roborock method of interaction just to get some HA integration? Do you have a guide on that?
@ZackBarett

I dont have a guide. but I used the Mi Home App and an app on my MAcbook to get the token needed. Ill see if I can put a guide out

I can advise the xiaomi door sensor which connects over zigbee. The cr2032 coincell lasts over 3 years. Home assistant can be setup to alert when to replace the battery.
