The only reason St. Louis was able to move so quickly on a new stadium for the St. Louis Rams once threatened by Stan Kroenke to move to L.A. was because a local judge ruled the proposed funding through a hotel and entertainment tax did not affect all residents therefore a public funding vote did not need approval first. No way would St. Louis residents have ever approved public funding for the Rams otherwise, especially after the debacle with the Dome. Of course Stam Kroenke had already bought land for SOFI years prior and was toxic for St. Louis. No way will public funding ever be approved agiani for sports teams in St. Louis. The Cardinals need to model the new owners of the STL soccer team with private funding only and if needed to raise ticket prices. St. Louis has far more important needs for public funding with safety number one.

But St. Louis City is no longer the city that it once was even sixty years ago in the heyday of Gibson, Cepeda, Brock, and Flood. St. Louis city has lost two-thirds of its population since then and most of the people who still live there cannot afford to come up with the revenue to afford any major part of $600 million dollars. After August Busch, Jr. died, August Busch III had no use for an unprofitable division, so the company A-B sold it to a group of investors led by Bill DeWitt, Jr. DeWitt, Jr., over the years, has bought out some of his fellow investors, so he is by far and away the majority owner. I have been a Cardinals season ticket holder since 2005 and go to 20-25 games every year. It is hard to understand why the owners of these teams feel they should get public funding to make them even richer than they currently are. Seems to me like they may be planning to sell the team at some point after these planned renovations which would likely add significant value to the team. So once again the public pays and ownership is the main beneficiary financially. Honestly makes me a little sick.

As a Cardinal fan, I think ownership is getting ready for sports gambling being put on the Missouri ballot to add a casino to the stadium or in ballpark village !

I don't see why it's that much of a problem to ask taxpayers. It's our park after all. It would be the best use of tax money we've had in a long time. I might actually see some of it

It's not too early to say they want public money, and how much, but it's too early talk about what they are going to do with it? It's not "for the fans" if they fans have to pay to use it, it's for whoever they are paying. And that's who should pay to renovate/improve it.

They are just trying to screw with KC getting money for stadiums.

they want $600 million for renovations, but won't spend 25 million on a Jordan Montgomery or Blake Snell.

Maybe they want to make the stadium able to convert into a football stadium for the battlehawks?

I'm a lifelong stadium aficionado, and I have to say the corporate welfare of these billionaire owners is super tone deaf. I think the end is near for teams getting subsidies. Reach in your own pocket and pay. It's just become real estate plays like golf courses and ski hills.

Are Missourians going to hand out more? Utterly ridiculous. No more taxpayer money for millionaires and billionaires.

Giants built Oracle on their own dime didn't receive a cent from the state or city. They have made they own improvements and renovations. Rest can do the same. Need to end this once and for all no more tax money for sports teams.

60 Years ago today, Shea Stadium opened. Shea lasted 45 seasons where the major renovations was going from wooden to plastic seats, a few scoreboard upgrades, painted blue and locked into a baseball config after the Jets left. Modest updates where in the later years consistently drew 2, 3 up to 4 million people for a ballpark that had seen better days. No bells and whistles and they brought in better crowds than many of today's parks. FIelding a good team and the game itself was the major attraction. How times have changed.
