My shifter had a very tight-fitting cable tie with very little of it to get cutters onto. I had to melt it off with a soldering iron. I inadvertently melted a small hole in the cloth, as it came in contact withe the side of the soldering iron shaft, so try and avoid this if you also have to try the melt-off option. Also, the plastic ring on the cloth cover fell off very easily. It has 2 parts that I will try to re-attach. I don't think these issues are critical but they did come up for me.

I wonder why grease the front and back of the Clixbeetle body if there's an issue with the unit riding up the shaft. Isn't greasing those spots actually working against the retainer clip? This is pretty solid-looking plastic to me. So why the grease on the front and back? Why would 'scratches' to the 3D printed plastic be an issue?
1 simple ziptie would have held it in place, mine used to come up too and that 100% solved it, it will also make it last longer because it wont wear from going up and down which scratches the 3d printing

You say this is going to wear and I read a comment below saying it didn't last very long (they said hours, but I don't know if that's an exaggeration). Let's say it hypothetically wears out in three months. Not only would it cost the price of the shifter itself within a year, but the performance would constantly be degrading. I'd rather pay more for something more permanent. If I only played on PC I'd just save towards a better shifter, but the reason I went with the TH8A is because I wanted to use it on console too for PS3/4 games. In fact, I wish new wheels (including direct drive wheels) worked with PS2 as well because some of the games are damn good fun, but I'm getting off topic.

I think if youre looking to buy a shifter. just go ahead and save for the fanatec one. In the end its much better and if you buy the TH8A with mods etc.) youre basically at the price of the fanatec. This is definitely for people who already own one.
@quantametric
Жыл бұрын
Fanatec h pattern is known to have issues. It also doesn't look as good as the gated thrustmaster shifter and can't be easily mounted to a desk.
@d3tach3d
Жыл бұрын
@@quantametric Those issues with the Fanatec are far and few between and from what ive read on forums, their customer support is great and they will replace/fix. I never had any issues with the one I have used for 3+ and has 2500+ hours of pretty heavy handed use of downshifting, jumping gears, or just banging through the range pretty aggressively in everything from Drifting, Rally Racing, Road Cars, etc). The Fanatec does have a "Desk Clamp". Ive owned both with enough experience . I'd e expect Form over Function to be way more important for shifter, especially for Sim Racing Hardware and I cant imagine subjective looks would be the deciding factor for buying something inferior. You'd think most racers would care more about the actual feel and overall experience they get from it. - The TH8A isnt "bad", it feels decent out of the box, it can be improved substantially with cheap mods making it feel way better (Highly Recommended). - But, when directly comparing the TH8A to the Fanatec, there no questioning it falls short in nearly every aspect. - IMO, the overall the build quality and functionality is Superior. A huge advantage is the Switching from H to Sequential. It takes 1 second with a flip of a switch while the TH8A this whole process required in removing changing the top plate thats screwed in place which extremely annoying and takes time away from actual racing. Especially when youre changing cars in AC, Dirt Rally, Gran Turismo, etc) that all are H or Seq transmissions and you want to accurately reflect their behavior with your shifter matching for a more immersive experience. #1 reason a moved away from the TH8A so fast because it got so annoying I ended up either driving everything in H pattern or Seq mode because within days I was already annoyed and tired of it. Or I was kind of pigeon holed to use certain cars for a period of time because I didnt want to change the damn Gated Plate. Just speaking for myself. I know Eco System compatibility forces people (mainly console users) use one or the other as well which sucks. But PC can let people have a mic match set of pedals, wheelbases, shifters, etc). Back to Functionality and Forum, VNM and other companies are putting out some serious competitors within that $150-200 price range and the recent VNM Shifter is a plain looking as it gets but feels great because simply avoiding the cost of unique tooling and manufacturing costs for "looks" put those costs into having better quality components its overall build qualiy, longevity, and most importantly "feel", in which Id think most people care much more about. There is also another Shifter that recently popped on for $90-100 shifter sold on Amazon that people are going crazy for and it 10x better than Logitech plastic piece of crap while being much closer to a midrange product. But yeah, Id imagine for most people in the heat of a race and banging through gears in the heat of racing are more concerned about the feel and user experience over the way it acutally looks. - Ill re-terate. Its a shifter fuck sake, lol. at the end of the day, what's the most important factors most racers would require/want in a shifter. - Compatibility - Build Quality - Overall Feel/Tactile feedback - Ability to Change that Feel with Stiffness - If the shifter is H and S, needing a fast way and effortless way to switch modes - Mounting solutions. Which Fantatec does have desk clamp which allows for multiple configurations to position it for ones needs allowing way more versatility over the TH8A. it also has solid mounting points for 80/20 aluminum Cockpits and other Sim Rigs which is important to a lot of people since if they are paying $200 for a shifter, the odds of them having even a cheap cockpit are high. the weird TH8A's Ice-cream Coned Shape doesn't make mounting to a rig an easy optio n in general let alone in multiple ways for finding the perfect position for ones taste.
@quantametric
Жыл бұрын
@@d3tach3d Those are some good points, although a little extreme in their volume. You obviously think a lot about this stuff. I'm perfectly happy with my th8a, I find nothing to be desired about it. Given that I am sticking to a desk mounted rig I think it works better than the fanatec would. Yes I could buy amount from Fanatec but that would cost me hundreds more. I've heard from a lot of people that fanatecs technical support is not good. Have you dealt with them personally? And then of course is the price difference. Here in Australia a fanatec wheel by itself costs around $800. That's without the wheelbase. Thrustmasters wheels are 400 and look just as good imo, particularly the sparco rally wheel. The entire fanatec ecosystem is approximately double the price of the thrustmaster one here.

@@quantametric I hear you, I defintetely dont knock you for picking products based on your budget and how far your willing to go into a sim setup. I think an old G25 with a brake mod and steering wheel adapter is a great entry level option for 99% of people. Your right about me being heavily opinionated or invested into Sim Gear. Its because I started out with a G25 and over the last 10 years I upgraded based on what suited my finances, space. and other reasons at any given time. I stayed with low level gear for 3+ years because the market had way less to choose from and Modding gear was popular and brought longevitiy., Then I upgrade to a midrange setup for another 3+ years with a T500, G27 Pedals modded with a heavy spring and cone for better brake feel, and got the TH8A which I also eventually modded to be alot more snappy, tactile, and more bite. I eventually said screw it and saved up for my last ultmate purchase with no more upgrading in mind a couple years ago. I built my own Aluminum Rig/chassis like all those other expensive ones being sold for $1200 and just sourced the pieces and hardware myself for a 1/4 the cost. I also bought some Fanatec Clubsport V3s becuse they were best bang for buck at the time, and the main showpiece being the Simucube 2 Sport. I also have 6 tactile transducers. 1 on each corner of the rig and 2 on my seat which vibrate to what whatever intensity or job a need them to do which is a HUGE immersion adder for anybody, even if they have 1 on a office chair. Dont ever buy Buttkicker and there amps. Theyre 10 times the price for 1 kicker and amp over my Dayton brand transducers and a couple cheap usb/soundcard/amps. Theyre all controlled with SimHub software and provide so much feedback than one could imagine. You should look into them. just 1 or 2 pucks and an amp would blow your mind. For my 6 Puck solution which is as close getting a motion platform of feedback, and 2 Amps cost me about $300 opposed to 1 single buttkicker/amp thats $600+. Im frugal with my money with alot of things which always made me educate myself as much as possible when investing into anything and I DIY as much as I can as well. This approach saved me thousands of dollars for my current Sim Rig setup that would be closer to 5 grand if retailed instead of $2500 for everything including triple monitors (not PC though) and no buyers remorse or regrets. I also made over half that back selling off my old Sim Gear. I recently updated my pedals to some proper load cell based ones as well but I think Im good for a couple years. I obviously still spent a lot of money but was saved up over tim, I recouped alot when selling my old gear, and in my case, I also Build and Race Cars IRL so the the 2.5K invested in my rig is nothing compared to a single entry level shit box race car thats a gutted BMW 325i that is a minimum of 5-7K to be race legal for time attack, rally, autocross, etc.) then you count Tires, maintenance, parts, etc) the costs are insane just on a small scale. So the passion is there and for what I get from the Sim Rig is arguably saving my money and for everything it provides its the best things ive ever had when it comes to having an amazing time racing, learning skills, practicing, and sharing the experience with friends and family thats not practical for my IRL cars. It still blows me away how these Sims provide people untaggable amounts of value when lookd at on a broader spectrum for their overall cost. I cant think of a single thing even close in price that constantly offers entertainment and joy.

First off, this video is so ladden with sexual innuendo that any 12 year old will piss themselves watching this :D Second, I want a red one, since that will automatically cut 0.2 secs of my laptimes. Third... The chrome on my TH8A shifter knob is all worn off on one side. Is that a common problem? Can I paint it with something that will last?

The resistance only work so much. After a while is wears out and feels dull. I have the TH8A for 2 years so it make sense it's worn out. With this, it brings a better tactile feel to it. Definitely not the same with just "screwing in" the resistance screw.
