Richard Habicher You're never too old to jump into the Koi game. It is a lot of hard work but once it's right, it's time to sit back and enjoy the fruits of your labour. Send some of that nice warm weather to England please. I don't like the cold so much...

Mythril, Well I like it but then I would. I designed it more as an architectual feature that simply a box for fish. However looking at the expanse of yours I think I need to move house!

hi,thanks for reply,I've just purchased synergy 35 combi but not had time to plumb her in yet, possible tip, because of noisy pressure pump I was told to use flexible pipe, stops vibration apparently, but have to make sure pipe is really secure using two clips on each end Marek

They are very noisy which is a shame. I have tried running it straight from the mains but it sucks the hose pipe dry. Shame really but I might take a look online for something a little quieter shortly.

No it's a good algae that eat the nutrients that the hair algae need if you really dose heavy it can out compete pond plants. At least that what they say on the web site you can find it on Amazon. Go to there web site I had my doubts but like I said my mother says she still has no string algae. She has algae on the walls but you need a pond patina of algae. I will be going up to see my moms pond later this month. Will post to you results

Robert Hansberger I might give it a try one of these days. How much would be required for 21,000L mate and how often do you top up ?

Thanks :) The flushing pump is rated at 1000W. I'm not too sure what the wattage of the actual motor that turns the drum, but I will have a look in the morning for you.

Thank you my friend for the reply was a bit curious as to how much wattage the entire pond uses.... currently building my own pond so trying to research on type of filtration and running costs... ;)

It's about 350W in total it's using with everything turned on. That's 3 x 10,000 pumps, 1 x 110W and a UV air pump on 24/7 for the bio. That doesn't include the flushing pump. It usually cleans every 40 minutes or so so hardly noticeable. As for physical costs, it's about £1.75 per day to run. Hope this helps mate.

Hi do you use dirt or soil in your pots for the water lillies. I use pee gravel. Dirt or soil in the pots will cause the blanket weed.

I use Aquatic Soil David. Very low in Phosphates. You can pick it up from Maidenhead Aquatics or online.

My koi eat and rip apart the lilies when the pads are floating at water surface and destroy the new flowers. The koi let it grow then tear it up.

Check out a new product NUALGI on Amazon. I Just re dug my mothers pond 2 months ago and I purchased this nualgi for her to add. we live in Arizona USA and the pond gets full sun. Now I am not up at her house to maintain the pond as she lives 5 hours away, but I usually get a call about now my pond is green. She had blanket weed on her plant baskets and she cleaned as best she and I could. I just talked to her on the phone about getting her water tested for phosphate as i just watched that video of yours. And my mother said that here water is clear and can see to the bottom and that the blanket algae is not growing and she thinks it is dying off. The filter on the pond is Mr Wrightly DIY pro filter.

Price really mate and I know the person personally behind Aqua Source brand so I know it's built to the best of their ability. They have also just updated to the Siemens controller. I'm told the next version will have two spray bars for the drum. I'm not too sure if that's a step too far but no doubt it'll help somewhere or another.

Unfortunately I'd get shot if I told you how much I paid for it. I think they retail at £3700 ? Come with 100L of Hel-X media. If you give The Oaks Koi a call in Kirkham, near Preston and tell the owner, Paul that Kevin has passed you onto him, I'm sure he'll be able to help you out ;)

Hydrogen Peroxide kills off hair algae. To outcompete the algae with plants would take up half the pool in plants..or separate plant pond as a filter. Whatever happened to sand filters for Koi? Or small gravels in those filters? Seems basic..just use a good backflush system.
