Hi, wonder if your copper TJ still looks and works oka? Maybe I just got a lemon, but it needed some major repairs soon after it arrived and now lots of "copper" isn't holding up very well.

I actually have one of the discontinued Miyazawa copper alloy flutes, the PCM. Love. I've never been able to play with so much range of dynamics, and I've certainly never been able to play so softly.

hey gina!! i play a 2018 tj virtuoso (unfortunately they didn't make the 958 voce hj's then). just wondering how would you compare the sound of the copper alloy body to a sterling silver body? wondering if it feels more warm to play. to me it kind of sounds like the characteristics that gold might offer!

Hi Gina! will you consider doing a review of both the "TJ and Di Zhao wooden flutes" as well as the "TJ and Di Zhao Rosewood piccolos" to test if they're worth it for Wind Band students in University?

I actually have a TJ wooden flute review coming up next month! I’ll add those to the list for the others. The TJ rosewood piccolo along with the blaze picc are fantastic (I’ve tried both!)

In the last week I have worked on 4 TJ flutes and 2 had the same binding right hand key problem. They had to be unpinned to correct. In 10 years of repairing Bundy, Armstrong and Gemeinhardt this NEVER happened at this rate.

I bought this copper TJ a few years back and right away it never seated properly and needed "straightening." Now, the copper plating is wearing off badly in a few areas. Guessing there isn't much quality control and final adjusting when these flutes arrive from China?

How does the patina of the alloy develop with time? Curious to know because my silver flutes have always got black very quickly with the intense humidity where I live!

I don't live in a particularly humid place (Chicago), but from what I understand, it is comparable to a brass instrument in terms of its material maintenance.

Sorry to report that my TJ copper alloy model looks like crap after a few years! Needed some major fixing also.

Thanks for the video - in terms of step-up fluted how would you compare this with the Kurioshi Vivace? Would you also consider the Trevor James 3031CDE to be a step-up flute? Many thanks

Hi Gina! Thanks for making this video. Do you think Yamaha 462 is also a good intermediate flute? A lot of people also recommend it

Does the headjoint lock a player into just one tone color? I've heard that TJ flutes tend to do that more.

Hey gina! Thank you so much for doing this review I really appreciate it. I was looking over to buy the Trevor James copper aloy flute you reviewed. However, I stumbled across another flute from the flute center center of New York page which is the Yamaha 362 H gold lip plate it’s roughly $300 more than the Trevor James. I’m at a stuck point right now whether to purchase the beautiful Trevor James flute or the Yamaha. It would be an honor if you would give me the pros and cons to which flute I should purchase

i'd caution you abt the voce headjoint. when i first got my tj flute (2018 model), it sounded amazing and dark. it was easy to play well, and the range was rlly good. but over the years, since i've grown as a player, i've noticed that the steep lip plate drop off that the tj voce headjoint is notorious for has little resistance for me. i've got a gold lefreque sound bridge, and it helps a little, but as i go off to university, i've been looking for new headjoints. i definitely do not think it's the silver headjoint that offers little resistance, but rather the cut of the lip plate. the thing that i do love, however, is that the lip plate and riser are all cast together. they don't have to be soldered together. the crown is also a lot heavier than any other headjoints' crowns, adding weight to headjoint of the flute. for me, it really balances out with the body, distributing the weight easier. i recently got the chane to play a new 2022 tj virtuoso model flute, and instead of a 925 silver headjoint and lip plate/riser, it has a 958 silver hj. the cut is still super steep though:/ i'd say that the headjoint is really important to consider, and if you feel like the yamaha headjoint has more resistance, or will allow you to grow into it, then go for that one. sorry this is so long, hope it helped!!
