Here’s new discovered footage of the lost pitch tests from the cancelled 1998 Roger Rabbit sequel, known as Who Framed Roger Rabbit 2. The footage of these pitch tests were sourced from a vimeo reel by Guner Behich who worked on the original Roger Rabbit from 1988 as a roto artist and also worked on the unproduced 1998 sequel. Similar to the Shrek 1995 test, the footage of these pitch tests have been around online for over ten years but no one has seemed to uploaded it anywhere else online until now. Unlike the animation pitch test that has been available online for fourteen years the animation in this footage is hand drawn instead of CGI and seems to be more material than the sixteen second animation test clip.
It has been confirmed that at least three animation tests of the sequel were made, which the first one was the Weasels entering the office of a Hollywood agent to convince them to allow Roger to hold his audition, the sequence would’ve been CGI breaking the table. The second one was Roger grabbing a drink from an actor’s hand. The third and final one was Roger performing a small dance in the office of the agent being rendered in CGI.
I also found a snippet of a CG render test from Vimeo user Rob Bekhurs who was an animator on the Lion King, Aladdin, Mulan, Fantasia continued, Roger Rabbit shorts and other commercials of an animation of Roger Rabbit’s head moving which could likely be from the unproduced 1998 sequel.
So yeah after twenty six years, new footage of the lost two pitch tests have surfaced from the cancelled sequel. The lost media wiki claims the production material of the sequel is found but that’s likely not true as there seems to be more material of this sequel that has never been released to the public. So hopefully more material from the pitch tests can surface and that they can get found much like the Shrek 1995 test, but only time will tell.
