Thanks for the video, Hanoch. The map graphic works well and enhances the video overall. Despite the flaws, it's nice to see Seattle and surrounding areas upgrading their bike infrastructure because it's long overdue. It's a lot better than it used to be. I just wish the same thing was happening in the south Sound, but so far it is not, places like Tacoma, Federal Way, etc. On a bike, it's still largely a free-for-all when you take to the streets. Look forward to more of these videos. Cheers.

THanks for the informative video! I like how they improved the bike lane around the Convention Centre so we don't have to switch between the left side and the right side anymore. Having to switch to the other wide after Melrose is still messy, which IMO could have been made easier by turning that intersection all-green / all-red.

The gate at Pike & 9th closes to block the left turn lane when the reversible I-5 express lanes go south in the morning (or are closed for the night) instead of north (the left turn lane leads to a highway onramp onto the I-5 express lanes, the express lanes and some ramps are reversible but this particular onramp is only for northbound traffic).
@BestSideCycling

@@syen9 haha yeah makes sense! In my mind it would be implemented as a typical toll gate that goes up and down instead of turns. Though also strange that it obstructs the bike lane a little! Thanks for the comment

Great perspective with camera following - we could understand the bike infrastructure and your decision process better. My wife and I biked Downtown going back 30 years, such an improvement! I wonder if your “missing” bike signal lights were by design, as traffic was 1-way coming from left, so no right turns coming from your right. Therefore, no need for bike-specific signal light?

I really don't understand why they did two relatively recent bike lane improvements going up Pike but decided to do one segment on the left and the other on the right and then just YOLO some bizzare design to bridge them together instead of just building the whole thing on one side or the other.

Yes, the cross over section at Melrose is pretty insane. Protected lanes/routes are only good as their weakest links. Then at the top it just dumps you into nothing if you keep going east at Broadway.

I'm sure it's overall an improvement but I will say it's confusing when you're not expecting it and the road is busy. Not sure how well those people on rental scooters will do, since they seem to have a lot of difficulty following even more straightforward bike lanes.

The red paint indicates the crosswalk can be used by both pedestrians and buses. jk I have no idea! Hopefully they will address those awkward transitions once the full thing is complete. One other thing I notice is all the stopping required. I'm unsure how much they can improve the signal timing, but prioritizing the bike signal to give you all greens would make cycling into downtown a much more attractive option. It's a shame they couldn't add bi-directional bike lanes along both roads to address the wrong-way riders. It's incredibly dangerous since cyclists coming the wrong way do not have a signal, so they don't know if it's their turn to go or not. Not to mention cars, pedestrians, and other cyclists are not anticipating bikes coming from the opposite direction. Either way I will absolutely take advantage of these new bike lanes. In fact, might pop out right now for a quick ride around the waterfront...

I use this everyday and love it! My only complaint is Pine and 7th cars not yielding. They really should add a bike light and make cars wait. For Pike at that weird crossinf at Melrose, I sometimes bike across the pedestrian crosswalk first if they have the light, then cross Melrose. Also, lets not give idiots going the wrong way an excuse for their stupidity. There are dozens of arrows pointing to the direction of flow. Shame people who cant read arrows.
