Oh my….that is a gorgeous kit! I favor the bigger sizes as well and had a one up two down for a while. I know from experience that dialing the right sound in on larger shells is a lot of trial and error. There’s a great video on youtube by Jeff Ochletree, who was Bonham’s tech for a spell, where he details how Bonham liked them tuned, which is pretty unique. I’m looking forward to the drum covers with that beauty!

True that probably a cheap Chinese kit just like my 6 piece evolution element that I got in silver chrome. Sounds really great but I'm only gigging with it and not recording. Those expensive kits from monroe NC are great for recording guess that's why it's called a studio kit, but I just need something to gig.😊 sorry but I don't like that configuration. I hope you do an update after some time playing.for the 11-1200$ ish range new, it seems like a real good enough kit. After all,drums are drums, and everything past the 700$ mark, comes down to hardware,usually USA or custom made, and hardware appointments. After that 7,8,900 dollar mark your paying for that.but you can get all maple kits or birch or walnut or sometimes other mixtures for way less than before. I was just looking at a pearl pricing guide the other day, and I recall the 8 piece export double bass kit, being like 1600$ and I'm pretty sure they where poplar and or basswood or both. I wanna get this kit despite just having got a Yamaha stage custom (all birch.well built.yamaha rules,I highly recommend the kit you simply can't beat it for the price) I wanna get this kit but I'm also looking at some mid upper tier ludwigs kits. Never played a 26' bass drum and I want it!!

@someroomtodrum
Жыл бұрын
I’m definitely not great with tuning and I don’t worry too much about a certain pitch. I’ve watched a few videos on KZitem recently to try some new techniques and I’d recommend that. Opinions on tuning can vary greatly, but there are some good tips on KZitem. These heads definitely reduced the overtones but I’m not sure I have them sounding the best they could yet. Another viewer mentioned that the rings on these ECs tend to fall apart after awhile. I would still like to try using Ambassadors or G2s, though I may get a drum tune dial for that.
@MrMmnngghh

Hi Tony, try the Tune Bot unit if you haven't already. It's not too expensive, accurate, easy to clip on to a hoop. I know exactly what you mean about overtones, especially on the 16" and 18" floor. I talked briefly about that on another thread here, it's proving to be the tricky part of setting the whole kit up just right.

I have the same kit, with the same finish. Do you experience excessive beater bounce? Meaning, once a note is played with the beater, it continues to bounce.
@someroomtodrum
Жыл бұрын
Nice! Yes, I tend to bury the beater into the head with each note. I was getting a lot of bounce with the full resonant head because it traps air pressure. That’s one of the reasons I cut out the hole: it releases air pressure so the beater doesn’t bounce so much. I’ll have a video about that soon!
@Leadman1
Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the info. I'm still using the stock full resonant on the kick. I didn't think to change the head out to a ported. I use lowboy wooden beaters and thought it might be some of the issue. I then thought of trying a felt beater (which I haven't used in decades) so I started resting the beater onto the head, to prevent excess bounce. I'm not a Bonham purist, whereas I exchanged the 14x10 with a 14x14 and I play a 14x8 maple snare. I also use Aquarian heads and Sabians. Nevertheless, I still dig the kit.@@someroomtodrum
