You WILL be grooving as soon as you l hear "Candy Girl'! I was 21 when it was released. Loved it then. Love it now! It was released in 1983; they were all between 14-15 years old.

That song was big back in the day, it came out when I was about 18 or 19 I think . Everytime I went to the arcade to play Ms. Pac-Man it was on 😂. Can you do a reaction to a young lady named Stacy Lattisaw , she was big in the 80s too. She’s from my hometown of DC . I know you would like her song “What You Need” . It’s produced by a young Diddy before he became mega famous.

A very sweet reaction 🍭👧🏾! I see 👁👁 that you have reacted to New Edition before: Can You Stand The Rain, I'm Still In Love With You, NE Heartbreak, Popcorn Love- Live Performance, Mr Telephone Man, If It Isn't Love, One More Day, (Sorry) You're Not My Kind Of Girl, Hit Me Off, Is This The End and You Don't Have To Worry. Candy Girl was the lead single released from New Edition's 1983 album: Candy Girl. It was written by and produced by Maurice Starr and Michael Jonzun. The song reached #1 on the R&B chart, #17 on the Dance chart and #46 on the Hot 100. It passed Michael Jackson’s song "Beat It" on May 14, 1983 to reach #1. The song also reached #1 in the UK. They were 13-15 when this song was recorded and the video was made. The music video for Candy Girl was the first music video that New Edition made. They didn't have a wardrobe budget, so the group is wearing their school clothes in the video. Some more New Edition music videos that you haven't react to yet 📽: This One's For Me And You, Popcorn Love, Count Me Out, She Gives Me A Bang, Cool It Now, Earth Angel, Crucial, Something About You, Hot2Nite and Walkin'. New Edition Info 📰: New Edition is a R&B group from the Roxbury neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts, formed in 1978 by Bobby Brown. Their name is taken to mean a 'new edition' of the Jackson 5. The group reached its height of popularity in the 1980s and are considered the "blue print" for what would become the "modern boy band". The lineup originally consisted of Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins, Bobby Brown, Ronnie DeVoe and Ralph Tresvant. New Edition has sold over 20 million records worldwide. The group has released 7 studio albums, 1 holiday album, 8 compilation albums and 29 singles. New Edition scored its big break in 1982, performing at the local Hollywood Talent Night held at Boston's Strand Theatre by singer/producer Maurice Starr. The first prize was $500 and a recording contract. Although the group came in second place, an impressed Maurice Starr decided to bring the group to his studio the following day to record what would become their debut album: Candy Girl. Released in 1983 on Streetwise Records, the album featured the hits: "Is This the End", "Popcorn Love", and the title track, which went to number one on both the American R&B singles chart and the UK singles chart. Returning from their first major concert tour, the boys were dropped off back at their homes in the projects and were given a check in the amount of $1.87 apiece for their efforts. Tour budget and expenses were given as the explanation as to why they were not paid more. Due to these financial reasons, New Edition parted company with Maurice Starr in 1984. Brooke Payne, the group's choreographer and Ronnie's uncle, was managing the group at the time. Brooke Payne would be fired after the tour, then later rehired as the group's choreographer at MCA Records. In 1984 New Edition would then move on to MCA Records where they would record 6 albums: New Edition (1984), All For Love (1985), Christmas All Over The World (1985), Under The Blue Moon (1986), Heart Break (1988) and Home Again (1996). In 1986 New Edition would participate in the King Holiday musical project along with Whitney Houston, El DeBarge, Stacy Lattisaw, Run DMC, Whodini, Full Force, Lisa Lisa and more recording a song and music video celebrating the first MLK King Holiday in America. Bobby Brown was kicked out of the group in late 1985 due to unruly behavior. He then began his journey on what would become a very successful solo career. New Edition continued on as a quartet before adding Johnny Gill to the lineup in 1987. In 1990, both Johnny Gill and Ralph Tresvant released their own solo albums, while the remaining three members formed the trio Bell Biv DeVoe which all had platinum record sales success outside of New Edition. Michael Bivins would go on to start Biv 10 Records under Motown and discover the R&B group Boyz II Men and kid's group Another Bad Creation. New Edition, all six members, reunited in 1996 to record the group's sixth studio album: Home Again. During the ill-fated Home Again Tour, both Bobby Brown and Michael Bivins quit the tour amid growing tensions within the group, forcing the remaining four members to finish out the tour, for which the group was sued. In the fall of 2004, New Edition's seventh studio album and Bad Boy Records debut: One Love, was released. New Edition and Bad Boy Records didn't see eye to eye during the recording or promotion of the album and only one single was released before New Edition got out of their contract with Bad Boy Records. Various New Edition reunions have occurred since then, usually with the 1987-1990 group lineup, though occasionally also including Bobby Brown. On January 24, 2017 a three-part docuseries: The New Edition Story, premiered on BET about the group's career and personal life. The Bobby Brown Story on BET followed in 2018. New Edition performed a medley of their hits alongside New Kids On The Block called The Battle Of Boston at the 2021 American Music Awards, marking their first performance at the award show since 1997. On December 31, 2022, New Edition performed on Dick Clark’s New Year's Rocking Eve with Ryan Seacrest. All six members were in attendance and performed various songs from both their group and solo careers. New Edition has appeared in the following tv shows 📺🎬📽: Knight Rider, Family Matters, Motown Returns To The Apollo and One On One as well as performing on the tv shows American Bandstand, It's Showtime At The Apollo, The Arsenio Hall Show, The Tonight Show With Jay Leno, The Steve Harvey Show, The View, Oprah Winfrey Show and Soul Train. New Edition also appeared in the 1985 film Krush Groove. On August 26, 2006 New Edition, including Bobby Brown, filmed a concert at the University of South Carolina's Koger Center in Columbia set for a future DVD release, the concert was billed as "Spend The Night With New Edition", a BET special presented by Lincoln with whom the group has advertised. New Edition, as a group, and in other forms (HOS, RBRM, BBD, Johnny Gill, Bobby Brown, Ralph Tresvant), has continued to perform their music live on stage over the years. Brooke Payne has remained the group's choreographer throughout the years and now manages the group as well. Honors And Awards 🏅: New Edition received two American Music Awards for Favorite Soul/R&B Band/Duo/Group (1987 and 1997). They also received the Soul Train Award in 1989 for Best R&B/Urban Contemporary Album of the Year - Group, Band, or Duo (Heart Break), and again in 1997 for the Best R&B/Soul Album - Group, Band, or Duo (Home Again). In 2012, New Edition received the Soul Train Lifetime Achievement Award. On January 23, 2017 New Edition received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for their contributions to the music industry. In 2017, New Edition received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2017 BET Awards. On February 17, 2022 the group was inducted into the Black Music & Entertainment Walk of Fame. I was in first grade (in their hometown and neighborhood- Roxbury in Boston) when this came out. Instead of going outside for recess, we’d rehearse a routine to this song that the 5th-8th grade girls choreographed for us 😂🥰
