The Bramley Moore pub will make a fortune when matches are finally being played at the new stadium. Once bars, restaurants and hotels come to the area, it will be a hub and hive of activity. It would nice if National Rail were to build a dedicated train station especially for the new stadium and Everton, but Sandhills is literally 15 minutes away on foot.

Nick, I understand why the Spurs asked the question about transport infrastructure. If anyone can walk from the new stadium to the city centre in 15 minutes they should really be competing in Paris this week as it is almost two miles to Lime Street. Also, the two-track line at Sandhills is hardly comparable to the set-up at Stratford and currently there are no bus routes that operate on Great Howard Street or Regent Road with the nearest routes from the north of the city operating on Scotland Road and the nearest bus terminus from the south in Liverpool One. For the opening game of the season this might not be an issue but it certainly will be for a night match in mid-winter.

Our biggest problem was finding a site to build the stadium because there isn’t enough space to redevelop Goodison. We were searching for a site for 20 years - King’s Dock, Kirkby, Stanley Park, Walton Park all came to nothing (although, very glad we didn’t move to Kirkby). Seems as though the City Ground is constrained by the river, rowing club, housing and a canal. But there seems to be open space a bit further east of the rugby ground and west around The Meadows.

Now, if Liverpool could only get their act together and build something to trump the distinctly underwhelming Anfield (architecturally) it could be a triumvirate! As we speak, the _real_ European cathedrals of football are the Bernabeu and the Camp Nou, with an honorary mention to the stupendous San Siro.

Noooooo. It's NOT a 15 minute walk from the city centre. Depends what you mean by city centre of course, but it's 25 minutes from Dale Street and its pubs. Couple of minutes quicker from the Pier Head. To the Spurs' fan, I'd just point out that good old London had the GLR built to regenerate the London Docklands 40 years ago. We've been given nowt. I timed myself from Sandhills station to the new stadium in 12 minutes, by the way.
@rosse6705

Obviously it does depend on where you are coming from. I only said 15 minutes because I'd done it in that time from the Strand a while ago. Obviously that isn't bang on in the city centre but it's a main part of the city where I'd imagine most fans are coming from, L1 etc. Obviously it's going to come down to the person walking as well, A young person will get there quicker than an older person. On average though I'd say between 15-25 minutes walk to get from most places in the city centre to the ground which isn't bad. Not to mention all the public transport in the area as well which people can take.

@@rosse6705 ; at the moment there aren't any buses, at all, along Great Howard Street or Regent Road (the dock road). Of course, once the stadium opens there'll be shuttle buses to and from town and Bootle. As far as I'm aware the plans didn't mention shuttle buses to Sandhills station but I'm sure there will be. Sandhills station has 24 trains an hour (18 in the evening and Sundays). 4 each hour to Kirkby, Ormskirk and Southport and the other 12 to Moorfields, Lime Street and Central (all linking with the Wirral Line) with 4 going on to the south end and Hunts Cross. The new 777 trains are in 4 car units which can be doubled to 8 cars. I think the new stadium will be much easier to get away from than some people are anticipating. Certainly easier than Goodison.

Colin: it was actually inserted before the glass was completed. In the approved designs there were to be a form of aerofoil structure in front of each layer of glass to take the eye away from the vertical lines and to emphasise the width. However, unless they retrofit those, I think we can safely assume a change in the design. I doubt it will be a potential gutter as that would then need pipes etc and my leaning is towards the idea that it will be a future support for an Illuminated Branding/Signage set. That's just an educated guess and my opinion, so don't quote me on it. It's been a 'watch this space' feature for me for what seems like months on end.

Hi Nick, great video as usual. I echo your very moving sentiments concerning the Southport tragedy ad events that followed. This world really has gone MAD!!! Regarding access to the stadium, I do have concerns about gaining access/egress from only one side of the stadium via 3 gated areas. I realise not everyone will be arriving or leaving at exactly the same times but even so.... I can foresee bottlenecks at the gates. Hopefully I'm wrong. At least GP can be accessed from all 4 sides. Also, do you think SEAGULLS may be a problem during the summer games??? Are you seeing many at the moment? You know what they're like around people and FOOD.
@davidbadcock2225

Steven: currently there are 5 gated thoroughfares through Regents Road wall. In time there will be 7, when Liverpool Waters has been completed. With a conservative estimate of extra width per person than they will enjoy sitting in the stadium and assuming a casual walk that would take 3s to actually pass through the wall itself, the calculation comes to the following. IF all £53k attendees wanted to get out at once, which is pretty unlikely, seeing as how a large number of people will be enjoying hospitality services etc, then it would take only 25 mins.

Fairly similar, unfortunately (UEFA requirements). However, the south and north stands are much steeper than the Park End and Gwladys. The 7 layers of insulation in the roof will generate an incredible atmosphere

There are many places for wheelchair users in all of the stands and at different heights (pitch side behind both goals and in the east stand, in the middle of the lower tiers, and in the corners). You’ll be able to see the concrete platforms on Mr D’s vids 👍🏻

Great video as always Nick but can you tell us will the first 10 rows of seats be out in the open or will they be covered in case of rain as the drone footage allways shows the roof not covering the first rows of seating but this might just be an optical illusion thanks Nick
@davidbadcock2225
2 ай бұрын
Kevin: that's an optical illusion as the roof definitely covers all the seats and over the first part of the pitch surround. However, who knows how far a swirling winter storm will carry the rain, with the East Stand most likely affected (That's a rhetorical Q, not a specific one)?
@DuncTheBlue1878

The polycarbonate roof sections cover the first row of all stands. If there’s no wind, the fans will stay dry. However, there’s usually windy conditions with rain (especially on the coast), so some fans will get wet - especially the away fans because the prevailing wind is from the south west and they’ll be in the north east so will take a soaking (which is one of the reasons the club put them there 😆)
@davidbadcock2225
2 ай бұрын
@@DuncTheBlue1878 Indeed. I'd agree that it was always part of the plan to discomfort the Away Fans by being in the NE Lower Section but also the reason for the Main Stand being the West Stand (even though it will be a little more interesting getting to the entrances via the SW corner in the worst conditions) and the Home Stand being fairly well cosseted to the South. The weather was clearly a major consideration in the mix for the orientation of the ground.

Thoughts with everyone involved in Southport attack - Totally shocking - Always a fav place to visit and remember from my child hood days when back in the area - Horrific for everyone. The stadium is looking amazing and I just dont get the hate of its location how can it be any worse than a stadium hemmed in by housing? Its nearer to the city than Goodison and I believe a walkway was going to be created to ensure easy guided access to the stadium. Wembley has plenty of train access but its still a nightmare getting out of that place in a car or on a train...

Yeah it's to do with the lack of space at the north end, which is hard up against the United Utilities waste water plant. The south stand is bigger and higher, so the barrel and the glass at that end is more angled than the north end.

Nick, I wondered if you would comment on the Southport Tragedy, as I know you spotted my comment posted yesterday morning to your previous video: "Bearing in mind the number of subscribers this channel has, the relevant subject and the locale, it's highly likely that someone that follows this thread has been affected directly by yesterday's appalling tragedy, a few streets away from where I once lived, in Southport. Whether you are a relative, friend or neighbour of the children, parents and adults associated with the childrens' event or a member of the medical and emergency services attending the initial scene or afterwards, I can't imagine the horrors you have already experienced nor having to come to terms with hereon in. My heart goes out to you all. I hope your immediate network can provide you with the solace you will need." PoI's: 1) Yes, Nick, it looks as though they have now planted the tall grasses that were lined up in their pots last Friday 2) In your video last Friday, water was clearly dribbling into the water channel area through 2 of the 8 pipes/valves from Nelson Dock. Now, it isn't. In addition they seem to have re-spread the sand in that area which will have soaked up the water there now. 3) The missed item on my commentary was with regard to the changes in the wind baffle structures along the Southern Concourse. I make this comment for others as I know you know, Nick, what was written before. 4) I see they have progressed really well with the Solar Array installation and can't be much more than a day or so from completing the Solar Panel fittings. 5) They were busy constructing the SW Movement Joint Gap covering (15:50 mins).

Another great video Nick and I have a question for you. We know the capacity is supposedly going to be 52888 but how many of the seats will be safe standing? We’re told the stadium can be expanded to around 61000 with standing which means at a ratio of 1.5 to 1 of which people seem to assume is correct then we would need 16000 safe standing seats to give us the extra 8000 but there doesn’t seem to be that many installed hence my question? Thanks in advance Nick or anybody else if they have the right answer👍

Great observation, the South Stand Lower and Upper together hold around 13,000 seats. Only the lower seats have been assigned as "rail seating" on the South Stand and in the Away fans corner. Therefore you'd have to assume that other Lower seats in the North Stand and maybe in the East Stand would be converted to safe standing, if or when the UK government rubber stamped that 1:1.5 ratio.
@DuncTheBlue1878
2 ай бұрын
@@DarrenCowzer-cx7ot Yeah, the north stand lower tier would have to be converted to rail seating and the government would have to change the law on safe standing to achieve 60K+ capacity. Highly unlikely, unfortunately
