I got my 3861 Hesalite Speedy over a year and a half ago and I have daily worn it ever since. It truly is a fantastic tool watch. I know my watch so well at this point that I can self regulate it by altering the position it lays at night so that my watch is never more than +1 second every day. I keep mine on the bracelet 99% of the time but occasionally throw it onto the omega black alligator strap to dress it up on occasion (weddings and such). This watch can do it all

Solid choice. I too spent time deciding between the 1861 and 3861. Ended up making the opposite choice and going with the 1861, but they are both great choices. Most useful review of this essential watch. I agree there is no need to take it off in the shower and I wear it every day. I will pass my 2020 1861 on to my son in law unless I live to see a grandchild. Appreciate the technical appeal and superiority of the 3861 but cannot part with what I received from my wife on our 40th. Following the space program from grade school through college as a son of the fifties gave me the incentive to train for an exciting secure and satisfying technical career. In a millennium this watch will be on display with other artifacts of the moon missions. There will never be a comparable watch.

I'll respectfully disagree. He already has the Explorer, the most fundamental of the Rolex steel professional watches. I don't think he needs the Sub. He also has a manually wound chronograph, one of the best. The only thing missing is a piece that leans a little more towards the dressy side but still very versatile. I would recommend the JLC master control sector dial, beautiful steel case, beautiful dial, very versatile still. The IWC Mark XV would also be a very strong contender. And of course the ultimate (for me) would be the Vacheron Constantin 1942, steel, blue accents. Beautiful piece, can be worn with anything from shorts to a suit, and it has a Geneva Seal movement and it's painfully beautiful to look at.

This is likely easy for me to say as it is my ONLY luxury watch, but I think you nailed every point as if I were reviewing the watch. From the sharp edges wearing down over time, to the worry of the first ding vs just wearing the darn thing. I absolutely love this watch more, not less, the longer I own it. I would like to point out, or add, a couple of additional things. Hesalite-I found it to be much clearer at showing the face of the watch. I also LOVE the greenish bubble edge that I see from some angles that creates the outermost sphere of the crystal. Finally, I think the watch is much more beautiful in person that I can recreate with cameras, lighting, videos, etc. I have not changed out the bracelet yet for two reasons, 1. I love the bracelet appearance, feel, function, etc. and 2. I have not found the exact bracelet/band that really "wows" me. I would love to see a video on what is behind the METAS (as you offered). Excellent wrap up and, please people, just wear this watch. It will soothe your soul more and more as it gets small scratches, patina, dings, oil, etc. on it. It becomes an extension of us... Oh, I do really love the look of the movement and if I could afford it, I would by the sapphire sandwich version just to keep on my dresser, so that I could look at the movement occasionally. 🙂 Oh, and one final comment...I bought mine almost exactly when you did...around July/August 2021.

I almost went with the Sapphire but my heart went for the hesalite!...the bushed bracelet for me is best bec this speedmaster already has many polished surfaces..the shinier bracelet on the Sapphire made it look more jewelry-like... which i found less appealing. Due to Bernoulli's principle, when you move your arm through water, the fluid passing over the wrist is at a faster velocity, causing a low pressure, not higher. Would be interesting to see if anyone's done specific instrumented testing on the use case of swimming with a 50m rated watch.

There’s something to be said about buying a preowned watch and even one with a bit of patina the reasons you give really can allow one to relax a bit and simply enjoy the piece, not all patina looks great I appreciate they offer a hesalite Crystal as an option. I live the vintage look and it’s easy to polish. So many options when it comes to a Speedmaster. Wouldn’t ever consider swimming with one but then again, it’s not something I ever do even with a suitable watch. Enjoy the watch it’s a beauty

There are a lot of options! That's a big range for me to make a specific investment. Given my experience, probably the Pelagos either 42 or 39. The Explorer can also be had at that price range if you're looking smaller and a little older

I agree these two would be part of a perfect 3 watch collection. A proper dress watch would be the third IMO. The IWC Portugieser 40 or JLC Reverso would be a great third.

Hi incase you're really worried about scratches on your hesalite, there are super super thin 0.1mm TPU self healing films on the market.. they're really good , invisible to the naked eye. You need a loupe to see the edge around the crystal! And best of all is they don't affect the beautiful opacity of the hesalite! Unlike those ugly cellphone screen protectors 🙂 Best regards

Great review and I’m glad you’re enjoying it. I’ve scuffed my clasp and tried buffing it out, not knowing that the brushed metal on the clasp would lose its satin finish and looks more shiny. Can you get a speedmaster rebrushed? Even the intermediate links, or are we talking big money for that? Thanks for the review! Hope you’re still loving your speedy. 🌙
@HarrisonElmore

Yes you can repolish or rebrush any of them if you want to. A majority of people do that. It can devalue it if you're looking to sell, but I do a light repolish on mine every so often

@@HarrisonElmore Oh really? I didn’t know that. It would just be the clasp if want done. It looks so uneven and I think it looked better when it was brushed (it comes brushed). Thanks for the advice! 👍

Hey sir, I’m looking at buying a speedy for my recent graduation. I was wanting to ask about how you can clean the watch off? With my SKX, after a few months of wearing, I’ll wash it off with some gentle soap and it’s very shiny again, etc. Have you washed off the speedy at all? I’m just curious with the water resistance. Thank you great video!
@HarrisonElmore

Soap and water is just fine. Just be careful with the pushers. The crown shouldn’t be much of an issue, but you don’t want to press the pushers. Just be careful and you’ll be fine. Mine sits in the bathroom with a shower and humidity is pretty sneaky. Check the gaskets every couple years

Nice video. Why did you pick it vs the sapphire sandwich? I like the old school look of the thermoplastic and the distortion it creates, and I like it's all brushed bracelet better. But having that nice see thru sapphire caseback would nice.
