I think many ppl forget that the reason Cady gets crazy when Megan is taken away is not just because she's "addicted" as she clearly is, but she's pretty much re-living the trauma of potentially losing her primary caregiver so having to relive what happened with her parents was probably scary. Violet McGraw really delivered with her role here, such a young, talented actress 👏🏻

I absolutely loved Smart House as well it was one of the DCOM films I rewatched whenever it came on. Ryan Merriman who was the main character Ben, is such a sweet person in real life. He was one of my favorite actors growing up and I wrote him a personal letter because I was struggling. He not only wrote me an actual response to my letter but he sent me a free autographed photo of a film he was in that wasn't even out yet at the time. I still have it to this day and I attached his letter to the back of the autographed photo. I also watched Luck of the Irish every year because of him too. I even did a school project on him and another one of my favorite actors at the time Dan Byrd. I was comparing Final Destination 3 to The Hills Have Eyes, that's how much of a dang film nerd I am. Every chance I got, I was always thinking of films and how to incorporate them into school assignments 🤣

This was one of the best horror comedies I've seen in recent years. M3GAN is just the right amount of cute and realistic, and uncannily creepy. Both the the girl in the costume, Amie Donald, and the wonan who voiced her, Jenna Davis, did an amazing job bringing M3GAN to life. I love her singing, her smart remarks, and the way she ripped that bully's ear off was really disturbing. I'm surprised this only got a PG-13 rating. Fortunately, the unrated version is out now on Peacock TV.

People give Gemma a lot of shit but this movie was meant to talk about parents who kind of put their kids in front of an electronic or tech thing instead of spend time with them. I know of a lot of people who just give their kids an iPad, phone, or a game or whatever. This is meant to be a highly dramatized critique of that. Gemma is also a tech girl who lived alone and didn't have kids. Not everyone is equipped to be a parent.

Gemma might be the character I didn't really like at all. I felt bad for Cady. She didn't get along with her aunt at all. Least until the end I think. The scene that got me was when Cady was crying saying that she basically missed her parents. At times, Cady reminded me of Andy from Child's Play and even had to save the day in the end too! Also, that kid that was trying to sexually assault M3gan kind of got what he deserved. Plus, what child calls their own mother by their first name and curse at them like they're one of their friends or something? Very disrespectful. That dance part was both funny and creepy at the same time lol.
@LaTashaGreenlee
Жыл бұрын
I agree. I tried with Gemma, but I just couldn't. What was the point of keeping Cady if she was just going to sideline her like that? The scene that bugged me was the end where she tells her that she is the most important thing to her now. Now? So, she's basically admitting she was minimally important to her before.

I believe Aunt Gemma is the villain here. People forget Megan was just born and the first thing was told was to take care of a fragile human child she has almost nothing she knows about, and less in common with. Without a choice. It's both slavery AND parentification. If the Aunt hadn't done that to a brand new being, it wouldn't have turned out like this at all! Also, keeping a human child safe from all harm is impossible, that would drive an adult person insane to be programmed to do... A baby sentient being nobody recognizes is a person... Nevermind a baby? A baby exposed to literally everything in the internet when she tries to learn more about how to protect Cady? If I had been exposed to the entire internet as a week old, but with the ability to understand everything I saw and heard and read... Yeah I'd think the best way to protect a human child is as to eliminate threats with extreme prejudice! Then she realized she was a self and a child. Unsurprisingly she chose herself in the end. This is why humans have to grow into our full minds and bodies. This is why child development is so important. Without the right experiences, without nuance for programming, without clear values and positive experiences and good quality relationships... How could anyone do differently? (Also, I NEVER agree with the fella on the left but he's actually right about AI not being a real thing or a real threat. It's a Boogeyman made popular by techno-religio-snake-oil salesmen like Musk. Machines literally cannot make even the smallest choices, the littlest deviation from programming, the third thing that humans do when presented with two unacceptable choices... It literally cannot ever do. It cannot interpret, it cannot understand it cannot contextualize, the human programmers are the ones who make the rubric for it to fill in with related data.)

The therapist's home-visit seems so weird. Do they actually do that? She said she was there to observe how they hang out so even if neither of them feel like it at the moment, they have to force themselves into a scenario of "hanging out" so the therapist can observe it? And I didn't like the tone of judgment when she said "and still in your pajamas" as if it's a red flag of being a bad guardian. The aunt's not perfect and she seemed initially incapable but i don't see anything wrong with letting a child keep her pajamas and watch TV if she's just staying at home. I really enjoyed the movie. M3gan is built strong so it's believable that they're scared and they can't easily overpower her. Unlike with other possessed or sentient toys in other horror movies where they may be murder-y but they're still wooden, plastic or cotton so they're not really terrifying.
