This is the kind of comment that we should encourage, Helping others to learn. For future reference, those are torsion (torque, mechanical thrust) units, they are used to tell physicists and engineers the tangential force produced by the rotation of something. In engines is measured RMP per RPM to plot graphics of Torque vs. RPM. In the other hand, horsepower is the amound of energy that an engine can deliver on each specific RPM band.

Well this is one Canadian who would buy that thing in a heart beat! I heard it was 2011 that it was coming to North America, I hope they mean Canada as well. I get tired of trying to talk about the WRC with people over here and the only car they can ever think of is the Subaru. The Subaru is a good car but they never seem to realize how crappy it has been the last 4 yrs plus in Rally. The German engineered Focus and the French Citreon C4 have been the dominators for a while now.

They used to make 5 Cylinder Turbo's for their A4's. If i am right, its just the 1.6, 1.8, 1.8T, and so on. Up to the RS4, wich is 2,8 Twin Turbo. You are right about the fact that the focus uses a Volvo engine. But i was talking about the whole concept about the 5 cylinder Turbo. That was audi's game from the 80-90's. So that's why i stated audi invented the 5 cylinder Turbo. Because IMO they really did! Thanks for you usefull reation, instead of bashing me. thx

@MaddDogg81 And here's a lesson for you on Forced Induction. Your RSX came with a higher compression ratio motor from the factory due to it being Naturally Aspirated. This Ford Focus RS, because it is turboed from the factory, is running a much lower compression ratio. Which means you make more horsepower per lb of boost than that RS does. However, it also means your car has to pull far more timing off to be safe, where as the RS doesn't. It can run far more boost than you can.

@bigbigpaws I'm guessing that Ford opted for more area under the power-vs-rpm curve (i.e. more power at any given rpm), rather than focusing on peak power. It's not much fun to drive a heavily turbocharged car that only starts to really accelerate hard when it's within 1000rpm of the redline. I'd rather have less peak bhp but strong acceleration at any speed and gear.

The only thing is it becomes much more difficult to tune though, for example with a escort cosworth tuning it to 400bhp or whatever isn't a problem but start putting that sort of power through the front tyres and things become a little more interesting. Why do the seem so reluctant to go RWD or 4WD again?

@bigbigpaws Yeah, true. It would have been more awesome with a supercharger... But as you said yourself, the 535d has two turbos, so I'm assuming you still get turbo lag. And anyway, we're comparing a 3.5 litre engine with a 2.5 litre. Surely the small engine makes the car feel more nimble and agile (and I personally dislike the knocking noise of diesels and the black smoke they make at full throttle)?

@Sherwin930 If you just want to make it as good as the rs in performance then new engine and a lot of performance upgrades like suspension, wheels, tires, racing seats, new brakes and etc, which will be very expensive. but looks wise the US ford focus looks nothing like a European RS, so there's nothing you can do for the exterior look wise.

gotta wonder what the real figure are though. Manufacturers tend to under play the numbers to keep the insurance group down. A more impressive 0-60 in the brochure might sell a few more, but a higher IG would put more poeple off. I really want a white one.

Why is this beautiful piece of Ford engineering NOT available in the states?? Hell can you even order one from Europe? Then again if it came to the U.S. they would probobly defile it with "regulations" and "engine limits" and what not. Regardless what an awesome rally inspired machine...cost less than an evo...and for a front wheel derived rally specked machine....just WOW! Highly impressive...a real head turner. Now if only they offered FWD on it...then it would be perfect!

i sat in the rs at an auto show and - dont get me wrong - i really like the style, sound, the characteristic of its 5 cylinder turbo, gearbox, drivetrain, suspension etc. but they made these little mistakes (that arent really important for a sportscar but well... they sucked though) . the color of the skirts/bumpers werent the same as the rest of the car and the gaps between these parts (hood, doors) had all different sizes. and well ... these are the differences in quality that i like so much

Er I dnt think u understand - get your facts straight: Focus RS is a rally car derivative (thats european Ford Arm not American). With a swedish based engine (European) Volvo sourced 2.5L RS Duratec (ST based). 6 secs is because of the large turbo (its the way u drive it which dictates torque delivery) Quafie Limited Slip Diff, Bespoke engine internals inc cams, conrods and pistons and Revo Knuckle suspension - which eliminates torque steer with 300bhp thats amazing!

I guess you are talking about the older M3 the E46? All BMWs are limited to 155. With the limiter removed the E46 (Europe Version) has a top speed of in excess of 170mph, 0-60 mph in 4.8 seconds. All without a turbo. The new M3 would be an even bigger difference
@tamapalagi

Having too much power on the drive wheels will cause a gyroscopic effect. It will tend to stay in the position it is in. This makes for poor return during cornering. Torque steer is caused by unequal drive shafts. A major problem with old front drives. Front drive was used to free space in sub compacts. All the other advantages to front drive are somewhat lies.

Your missing the point. the 250bhp kit had been developed along side FORD. GGR conversion gives you 300bhp but the power is at the top of the Rev Range, which means you cannot put your foot down anywhere and get the additional power. This proves you can't just get the parts and expect the Engine to be like the RS.

No it was not a trick FWD car, was a 1998 Volvo V70 wagon with around 250hp and the torque steer made it almost scary to drive as it would all but decide on its own what direction it would go. Adding trick hardware to make up for the short comings of FWD is the same as putting make up on a pig, in the end its still a pig. I only buy AWD cars now.

Sorry mate just except he fact its not a St beefed up. The ST i drove had a 304bhp print out which belongs to a very close friend of mine. The RS is more responsive than a 300bhp ST and you can feel the difference of the Car compared to the ST in 2nd Gear. Yes its the same engine but you can notice the difference of the cars. Engine has had alot of work done to it. Big turbo w/1.4 bar boost, Stronger Pistons, Uprated Head, Reworked cooling & many other things. Drive one then tell me its the same
