Yeah, I thought it'd be fascinating to see if you can go fast and long by going slow and long. The answer is yes.

Great experiment! You have a massive aerobic base right now. Just ran 30 miles on the Danube out and back on each side between Ulm and Leipheim- thanks for your inspired and informative videos. It was a gorgeous run!

BRAVO!!!!! Wow, bloody AWESOME!!! You just go out and do a marathon PB as a bit of a fun fitness test and don't even bother looking at your watch, while the rest of us are training our arses off just to survive one!!😂😂!! Yes it's paid off alright!! 😂 I see you decided to keep your Forest Gump beard too, at least for a while!! 🙋🏻♀🏃🏻♀🏃♂

Can highly recommend not looking at the watch. Least struggly marathon I've ever run I think. Maybe due to fitness but also just ran how my body felt. Eased off if I felt I was digging too much and it worked overall. Even with this ridiculous beard. Still working out what to do about the Gump. 😂

Nicely done!! Over a half hour PB on that track is amazing!

Thanks Chad. I'm pretty happy with that. Mind starting to wander to what might be possible on a flatter, faster course. But also to rest.

Great effort! Saw you by the Garmin stand i thought it was you through the beard! I should have said hello! Did my first half marathon at 51 and 100kg in a time of 1:53:52 really happy with that as it was a tougher course than expected.

That’s a cracking time for a first half. Particularly on what is a difficult course. Nicely run. Would’ve been good to say hello too. What’s next John?

😂😂 yeah that's a hell of a training block!!

Don't see why not! 😂 Seriously though, mine is obviously an extreme example but I'm now convinced of the benefit of a longer lead to a marathon block and taking a lot of the intensity out of it too. Lots of low and slow miles.

@@Manvmiles it was the coolest race I've ever experienced. I thought NYC was awesome but this was insane. The supporters the whole 90K were just amazing. The race itself was first class. Hydration and nutrition stops were the best I've ever had. I think 45 Hydration and nutrition tables with everything you need. You would love it and you would do great. I did a 7:49. Much better than I thought

Great running After watching this video I’ve signed up for the new forest marathon next year I was just wondering what type of shoe you would recommend for this type of terrain?
@Manvmiles

That's great. I hope to be there again too. You can run in road shoes if it's been dry. But a good road-to-trail shoe is the best bet I think. Something like the Speedgoat 5 or maybe a HOKA Tecton X.
