So, as you can probably tell, I'm building this plane in mid-flight. The reason I started with the GPU is that I value, right off the bat, graphics over speed. So far the speed has far exceeded my expectations given the below specs. It's not as great as it could be, if I had a lot of money, but I think I can piece together a gaming computer that I'll like, over time, and with fewer dollars than if I had gone out and tried to build one from scratch.
My current specs:
MSI B360M BAZOOKA Motherboard
i5-8400 2.8 GHz 6-Core Processor
GeIL EVO POTENZA 8 GB (1 x 8 GB) DDR4-2400 CL16 Memory
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER 8 GB Video Card (Replacing RX580)
It's obvious the RAM is the most immediate weakness. To realize more potential of the GPU I'd need at least 16 GB of RAM (preferably well above the current 2400 MHz speed). Then comes the i5 processor, which is good but not up to speed, as it were, when coupled with an RTX 2060 Super. An i7-9700K is in my future after I've sold all my grown kids to a circus. But, honestly, I'm kind of surprised at the performance of the i5-8400.
I may not replace it immediately because -
Underlying all of this, of course, is the motherboard, which is plenty fine, can handle up to an i9 processor, but good to only 2666 MHz RAM, so...yeah, that's probably going to go eventually...maybe before the CPU...I dunno...we'll see what's next.
