Now that you’ve had it for a few years, any issues with pulling up causing tremolo damage? I’ve heard rumors about this.

Does the trem system stay in tune well with use of the bar?
@Scalibq
4 жыл бұрын
Seems to depend on two things. First, the quality of the strings. I tried some GHS Boomers, and the ball ends would slip. I now use original Steinberger strings, which stay in tune much better (they also include an extra high E, which is nice, because that string tends to break most often). Second issue is that you are a heavy whammy user, you have to make sure that the bridge saddles are fastened REALLY tight, or else they can slip, which messes up your intonation over time, and makes the guitar go out of tune a bit. If you got all that sorted out, it's a very stable system, close to a double-locking Floyd Rose-style.

Great playing! Excellent 80s nuance. What amp are you using, by the way?
@Scalibq

Thanks! I'm using a Line6 Pod X3 Live here, with the Variac amp model (based on Eddie van Halen's Marshall Plexi and Variac transformer setup), and a treble booster in front.

I finding that this guitar needs special strings-Double Ball, that very expensive. Is this true?
@Scalibq
4 жыл бұрын
Yes and no. Normally you put double ball strings on Steinberger guitars, which are nearly twice as expensive as regular strings. But you can install a special string adapter (Steinberger model STADG06), which is basically a locking nut, which allows you to use regular single-ball strings.

Scali Bohemiq does this make it go out of tune more?
@Scalibq
4 жыл бұрын
@@Formelyknownasnone I can't tell you, because I haven't used mine yet. So far I've only used GHS Boomers and original Steinberger double-ball strings. The GHS Boomers didn't stay in tune well, because the ball-ends were not attached properly, and they kept slipping. The Steinberger strings do not seem to have this problem, and the tuning stability is very good, comparable to a double-locking trem.

Yes, it seems to be balanced quite well on a strap.

I hear another reviewer give a MEH to the pickups that come with the guitar...whats your opinion?
@Scalibq
3 жыл бұрын
"Meh" is about right yes. As in: they aren't particularly bad. They are very low noise, and the sound is decent enough. However, I find them to have quite low output for a guitar of this type (80s shred machine/Superstrat-like). The sound is also a bit bland, I'd say. Then again, it's difficult to judge how much of that is because of the pickups, and how much of it is because of the unique shape and construction of the guitar. You can hardly expect it to sound like a Les Paul I suppose. I guess they are more or less what I'd expect for a guitar in this price range: good enough for regular use, but an upgrade could turn it from good into great. My problem is that I have no idea what kind of aftermarkets I would want. I'd like EMGs, like the original Steinbergers from the 80s had, but there's no routing for a battery, so they'd be difficult to fit. Perhaps some Gibson Ceramics in there... 500T and 496R work great in my M-III guitars.

@@Scalibq I saw one in my regional craigslist that had lace sensors on it?! Someone must have frankensteined it along the way. Never played a guitar with laces so I dont know what it achieved.

Well. That puts to rest all the arguments I see about the stock pickups on these. Nothing wrong with that tone at all.
@Scalibq

Perhaps a lot of people don't like them because they have relatively low output. I need to turn up the gain a bit compared to my other guitars. But other than that, they produce a decent enough tone, respond well to pinch harmonics, palm muting etc, and are quiet, and not very susceptible to feedback.
