Awesome video man, I love your HUD reviews. My biggest problem with Teslas are the electronic (aka non-tactile ‘click’) turn signals that don’t activate sometimes even when you clearly hit the signal. What makes it 10x worse is that to get around the terrible stalk-signal issue, I make a habit of looking at the screen to see if the turn signal icon’s flashing… but it’s microscopic on the screen. So a gizmo like this, just for the visible turn signals alone, makes it look worth it to me.

I installed this unit in my Model 3 and it's great. The name is misleading because it's not a heads up display. A heads up display projects the info onto the lower windshield, and this doesn't do that. I located mine a bit deeper into the air slot which makes it harder to see the housing, but the display is still very readable. I highly recommend this to anyone who misses having the speed readout directly in front them on their Model 3 or Y.

HI Shiva.. now that you have completed several videos on many dash mounted displays .. can you tell me which one you prefer the most? I understand some are bigger than others but now that you have used them a lot .. which one gives the most information, least problems over time and the display that makes you feel proud to have on your dash...?? thanks again for all your thoughts and good advise. Cheers Andy

Hi Andy, if I had to chose a display, I would chose the 9" Linux display I reviewed a few months ago. Even though it blocks the airflow, it is better than the larger displays we have reviewed in the past. The 9" screen is very integrated, free of bugs and comes with extra features. I like that the Carplay automatically connects as soon as you enter the car and overall just feels like a premium product. My second favorite is the switch back dash due its wireless charging ability. Hope this helps, thank you so much!

The lack of an instrument cluster, and some actual tactile buttons you can operate by feel are my big reasons I’m looking at another brand for my first EV purchase. Price in the US is another factor, but not as big for me. If Tesla shipped vehicles with a heads up display and instrument panel in front of me, I’d be all in for a Tesla.

I’m not too fond of running the wire along the air vent. It still shows a bit from the driver position. What do you think about dropping the wire down and under the wooden dash trim cap? I haven’t tried it yet, but seems that should be pretty simple to pop off the dash trim and run the wire under it to the left. What do you think?
@ShivaSapkota
Жыл бұрын
Hi Todd, yup that works just fine. You can feed the wire through the wood dash and then route it via the center console. My feedback to the manufacturer was to make that wire come out of the back instead of the side for that very reason. Thank you.
@ReDiiKuLuS
Жыл бұрын
That’s how the installs from other third party HUD displays have been suggested. The wood trim should just be held in by clips and you can pop it off for the install and route it in the channel that goes across the dash and down.

@ShivaSapkota
Жыл бұрын
Thanks Mal! It might be a little too short to get the wire to the other end and then route it back. You can make it work in two ways: 1. Remove the wood dash and route the cable from under the dash, take out from the gap on the center screen and route it back through the center console. 2. Splice the cable and extend it. There are 4 cables (power, ground, negative and comm) and you can just use regular electrical wire (14 AWG) to extend it. After you messaged me the other day, I ended up modifying my plug to fit this display as mine is a 2018 M3 and they sent me the 26 pin larger plug. Thank you!
