I installed a Nightengale wood stove back in the late 70’s. Had it for 15 years. 21 years without using Wood heat, I had an Xtrodinaire Elite Fireplace Insert installed, with a stainless steel chimney liner, because of insurance purposes here in Massachusetts. It’s great with the secondary burn and glass door, 2 Ninety CFM blowers, when it gets real cold, front load feature. Heats 2200 square feet. Retired now and really enjoying it daily. Best of luck with your stove👍

Thanks Al! Yes I had to also install a 8-inch stainless steel chimney liner in mine. They would not install it unless it had the liner. Something to do with the EPA's 2020 laws.

I recently was asked if I can boil a kettle of water on my stove. Yes, but it does take longer than boiling it on your kitchen stove top. The time would also vary depending on how much water you're trying to boil. For example, a regular tea kettle 3/4 full took around 40 minutes. The whistling also sounded very different. On a kitchen oven stove top, it's a very loud high pitch sound. On the wood stove it's more of a low sounding pitch.

I had the Equinox model for about eight years. I wouldn't trust that gauge. Your thermometer needs to be on the stove pipe, no more that 12 inches from the stove box. Keep it under 450°, otherwise the cast iron may warp. Looks very nice.

Does the stove heat your whole house or does it mainly just keep the room it’s in warm? Was looking at purchasing one and wasn’t certain if I would need to purchase the next size up (The Mansfield).
@themintoshow

Hi Michelle! Yes, it heats our house but there are different temperatures throughout the house. Just the name of the game. It's not like a forced-air system. Just on the first floor, there might be a 10-degree difference. Yeah that Mansfield looks awesome! Please let me know if you get one.

How did you handle the chimney fire? Did you just burn out, did it damage anything on your house? What caused it, not cleaning it enough? How often do you clean it now?
@themintoshow
8 ай бұрын
Thanks for your questions! I handled it by closing down the air flow. That put it out really fast. I don’t think the fire caused any damage. I have it cleaned yearly by Byler’s Stove shop in Dover. It’s a long story on why it happened. I’ll try and shorten it. When I purchased the stove they kept telling me you know this is a 2020 stove, so I guess what they were trying to tell me when I got down to the bottom of it was that the EPA changed the admission standards on woodstoves. So after a month or two of using the stove, it became evident with the creosote buildup and the fire being snuffed out that the damper was the problem. When the damper is fully closed, there wasn’t enough airflow going out the chimney and the fire just kept getting snuffed out. So how I fixed it was I just leave the damper open just a little bit and that creates very good airflow.

Not for nothing but the instructions for my stove said no elbows you must go straight up with chimney The installer that put my chimney in put a 45 degree pipe in after I told him not to We had a fire in the 45 He had to come back out and reinstall it no problems since We have the heritage stove like yours
@themintoshow
2 жыл бұрын
Hi Robert! Thanks for the info! I never looked at the instructions. I just trusted the dealer I bought from. I guess they had to run a 45 in mine because the main pipe heading out of the house is higher than the stove. How's yours burning?
@robertjeffery6100
2 жыл бұрын
@@themintoshow mine burns great now but I was glad I had triple wall pipe when I had the fire it kept it in the pipe but the fire department red tagged it until they reinstalled it straight up without the 45 It turns out your insurance might not cover any damage if it isn’t installed to the factory recommendations. My installer had to for no charge come back and fix it for no charge because they installed it wrong

That’s a really nice looking stove. How is it after a year? You still like it? Any complaints? I’m burning an Enviro Boston insert, which is an awesome stove. My only complaint is when I lose power, I lose the blower fan and can’t heat the whole house. I’m thinking about changing it out.
@themintoshow
Жыл бұрын
The stove has been awesome! We love how the soapstone retains the heat. Yeah with an insert you need that blower to get the heat out. Not really sure what the workaround would be if the power went out. I should do a video on this, but when I was buying my stove, the dealer kept saying "you know this is a 2020 stove right". I guess there were some changes to wood stoves in 2020. I'm not sure exactly what the EPA changed but I'm thinking it has something to do with the amount of smoke leaving the chimney. What I found out was that when I closed the top flue handle, it stopped the airflow so bad that it was putting out the fire. I was getting creosote inside the stop. The dealer was no help. So how I fixed it was by attaching a cable to the handle so that it wouldn't close all the way. Now it runs like a champ!

How do you like the stove so far??? How many hours do you get per burn ?? How big is your house??
@themintoshow
3 жыл бұрын
So far we're very impressed with the stove. Our last stove was a 40 year old Fisher which was cast iron. So with a cast iron stove it heats up very fast but also cools down fast. How the soap stone retains heats is truly amazing. But it does take a little longer to heat up and start to radiate the heat. Let me try to answer your question on how many hours we get per burn. Now that also depends on the wood you are burning. I've never bought fire wood, so whatever I can get from my property, friends, or Craigslist, I'll take. Right now I have a mix of oak, cherry, maple and poplar, which all burn at different temperatures and lengths of time. If I got to bed at 10pm, the temperature in the room where the wood stove is located is usually between 80-83 degrees. If I wake up at 6:30am, the temperature now is around 69-71 degrees in the room. Now what is crazy for me is that the stove is still very warm to the touch and there are hot coals in the stove. So I usually scoop from the bottom of the stove and remove the fine ash, leaving the hot coals. So getting it up running again is pretty quick. We live in a 3000 sq foot two story house in the state of Delaware.

I’m not sure if it’s a rolling boil. We have put our tea kettle on it and it does whistle just like on a regular stove top. Right now the stove top is at 500 degrees. The water in the pot is 200 degrees and it’s not boiling. Just steam coming out of it.

Hi Corey! in the video did you notice my little wood cart? I usually go through a cart full a day. I work, so I'll start a fire at 5pm, filling it throughout the evening. Before going to bed I fill it full. when I wake up at 6am there are still hot coals. I'm very impressed with the soap stone. It retains heat very well. Way better than my old one.
