We decided to start MWC-1st grade early. And we are loving it! We're actually enjoying it even more than kinder MWC. So far math comes pretty easy for my 5 year old, but I can see new concepts coming up in the curriculum.

I ordered MWC 2 for my little girl who just turned 7. She actually picked it when I showed her different options and she calls it “Swan Math”. So sweet! I’ve had my eye on MWC for a couple of years and am excited to use it. With homeschooling 9 kids and teens, I have used Singapore, elementary and middle school programs from Master Books, Life of Fred, Right Start, Learn Math Fast, Critical Thinking Company, Simply Charlotte Mason, and more. My oldest is using Teaching Textbooks right now. It sounds like a lot, but over 13+ years with so many kids, it’s not that many programs, right?! 😂 Im really excited to use MWC next year. I’ve never used the other one you mentioned, so no opinions from me! Im excited for you to look at the conference and choose what is best for you and your little sweetie. ❤🎉

We went MWC 1 after finishing Apologia Math 1 (she didn't have any facts down). We LOVE MWC. Such good review throughout and really builds a good foundation. And it's fun for my daughter. I did BJU kindergarten with my older children and loved that math. But MWC really blows others out of the water in terms of ease of use, time needed, and foundation built. I'm curious to hear what you choose!

I was considering MWC as well for my 2nd grader but then started considering Apologia Math. It also has a daily hands on/game aspect but is more colorful, which appeals to me. 😊 We still have a ways to go with our year so I still need to analyze her learning needs. We are actually using Math Mammoth but had taken a break to use Addition Facts that Stick because they hadn’t quite been sticking.

My youngest loves explode the code!!! I leave it in the playroom for independent work and encourage her to use it!!! We’ve not used ether math program!!! I had strong opinions on the math curriculum I hated as a kid and my twin son loves the program I hated and the intensity doesn’t scare him!!! We have a zoo membership in the next state to us and love it!!! My youngest isn’t doing an elective as well!!!

I noticed you haven’t been using Happy Cheetah for a while… just wondering if it is still a program you you’d use? We are making very slow progress through AAR (7.5 just staring level 2) and need an intro to English grammar/writing next year for grade two. Was looking at HCR but the price and maybe reading redundancy has me pause… would you just add PAL writing instead? My boy is very energetic and hands on. Is it a program that would grab his attention? Was also considering Spelling You See and BJU English 2 😅

Happy cheetah was good for a time it’s not at all a bad program but it definitely sounds like it may not be the best fit for your child. It’s a lot of workbook work and if he’s very energetic and hands on I would imagine it wouldn’t be the best fit. IEW is going to incorporate writing, beginning grammar, spelling, and literature studies so it’s a lot in one program which keeps it fresh and interesting. IEW writing does have the perk that if you buy it through IEW they have a 100% money back guarantee so if you don’t like it you can return it at any point with no questions asked.

I was using Happy Cheetah too but switched to Pinwheels by Rooted in Language. It is everything in one…reading, grammar, and spelling. It has helped my daughter so much!

We didn’t end up getting as far in MWC as I hoped so we are still finishing that and then I think we will continue it for 1st grade. It just sticks so well.
