Very enjoyable video. I've never really seen much proper model railway stuff like this - the closest I've got really is some toy model trains as a kid. While I've known this existed, and suspected I'd enjoy it, I didn't realise I'd enjoy watching this video so much. It is very relaxing to watch the model train in motion, and lovely to see the trains from a more civilized time (well, I prefer them anyway) recreated. Thanks, very impressive.

Many thanks for the comment and compliment … very glad you found my video and enjoyed … and I’ve loaded a few other videos of my layout. It’s an interesting and enjoyable hobby and can use and learn many different skills … and there’s plenty of other lovely model railway layouts on KZitem and also online forums. Thanks again, Mark 👍

Many thanks for the kind words! The WCML during the 80’s and 90’s certainly enjoyed a good variety of rakes and liveries and with the many models released in recent years, it’s great to be able to model and operate some of them … and hopefully some more videos on the way! 👍

Many thanks …. and my pleasure! Glad you enjoyed … and I’m also pleased that Hornby released another batch of the sleeper carriages. As mentioned in the video, I enjoyed several trips aboard the sleeper trains and great to be able to recreate … and they do look good! 👍
Many thanks … it does look good! Glad you enjoyed the running session 👍

they do look good on your layout. I went for the blue grey version as I felt they were more my time era, mid to late 80's and they also ran in formation with Class 91 test trains. I enjoyed watching that. Does the Bachmann MK2f match well with the colours of the hornby coaches? especially that lower side beige! Finally, your over head wires....scratch built or dapol or peco ones? they look good. and the masts/gantry spanning the tracks, who makes them? again, they look good. Cheers Dave

Hi Dave, many thanks … am glad I bought a rake even if they’re not the most detailed tooling these days … and I saw you bought a few and they do look good behind your 91! I guess you have a rake or two of MK4’s heading your way soon? I’ve managed to resist so far! Although did travel on a railtour that took a IC225 down the ECML from KX to Ed then up to Euston along the WCML during the 1990s! The catenary is mostly the Peco wires … cut to size using a couple of jigs, then ends bent around a thick nail, then hooked onto the Dapol masts or NBrass portal kits. The wires also toned down by spray painting in sleeper grime … is the temptation to add wires growing? 😜 Mark

Almost forgot! The colour of the Hornby IC sleepers is similar to the usual creamy-beige IC MK3’s (still much better than Oxford!) … so not too bad when matched with Bachmann MK’2 or MK1 BG … I took a pic of the sleeper v MK1 BG and a few others for RMWeb … www.rmweb.co.uk/topic/171989-r40040a-caledonian-sleeper/#comment-4831536

Glad you like the vids! Good idea … I do have a small camera mainly for recording cab rides … so could try and position it sideways … although the camera is a rectangle shape so may clout some of the structures and signs!

Someone finally did a review on the mk3 sleeper coaches! Yes! Could you run it with a mk3 buffet because it’s more fitting” with the sleeper coaches. I would want to recreate that in the future but with 10 sleeper coaches

Glad you enjoyed again … the sleeper carriages do look good! I don’t think the MK3 buffet carriages have ever ran in a rake with sleeper carriages in real life …. Every sleeper train I caught a MK2 first class carriage was included within the rake … 👍

Great modelling... what does the upper section do... I have seen several videos now and nothing runs on the to two lines. Amazing that you seem to have 6 loops and they are interconnected. Oophs I should of waited the top tracks are used and not loops.

Excellent looking coaches but I bet they're not cheap so may have to stay with my Lima rakes! Your OLE masts are amazing especially the box lattice ones, could you tell me who makes them please
@ModelRailway
2 жыл бұрын
Many thanks Brian … they are the same tooling as the older Lima type (although they do have a more modern bogie complete with NEM pocket), so I can understand your choice to stick with the original Lima Sleepers … they are pretty good models! And sure … the OLE masts are a mix of the Dapol plastic type, while the lattice masts are brass kits by NBrass models. Quite easy to construct and solder together … and a lovely chap runs the company and is always happy to help and advise; always great service. I’m also planning to do a ‘how to’ video in a few weeks of constructing these brass masts … watch this space! 👍

How come mk3 Buffets(except the GWR ones) never ran with mk3 sleeper coaches?

Why you using A Class 47 to pull the Sleeper train as you seem to have full 25kv. Diesels pollute the environment.supper Layout and love the BR image, I love to get rid of my Virgin levered trains and other company's.

Thanks for the comment and glad you enjoy BR image and the layout! As for diesels running under the wires …. well …. it does occur quite often …. and maybe the OLE was switched off for maintenance? 😜 👍

Its not a review.. I wish hornby had done the executive inter city sleeper version. The lower colour beige seems too light. No mention if these are new tooling or cast backs to the Limby model.
@ModelRailway
2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment … I’ll leave the reviews to the experts (and ‘experts’! 😜) I think the bodies of this batch are Limby and haven’t been upgraded, but the bogies are the newer moulding by the looks of it as they have the NEM pocket (but no close coupling mechanism). The lower grey/beige seems a decent match to the Bachmann IC and also other Hornby MK3’s … only slight difference … much better than the Oxford Rail MK3 colours. I posted a pic of a Hornby sleeper next to a Bachmann MK1 BG on RMWeb … www.rmweb.co.uk/topic/171989-r40040a-caledonian-sleeper/#comment-4831536
