I have both Spydercos & Cold Steels with XHP. Love it. From my experience it's a modernised and refined D2 - essentially D2 with better corrosion resistance, better toughness & is easier to get a clean & keen edge. I find that it likes a slightly toothy edge which it holds for quite a long time. In comparison to S30V or S35VN it's probably closer to S35VN but you really need to be a steel nerd to notice any real world difference. As for the Maverick scale colour - 'fairly floss/cotton candy splatter' I think covers it - literally. Sharp blades all.

I see this current knife trend as being towards the peak, before an inevitable, lengthy decline. More knives and knife manufacturers than you can poke a stick at. Charging increasingly more and more for standard level blades. People flocking to knife shows and having dozens of blades with similar looks, materials and functions (or no function at all). I know knife makers may think that the party will last forever, but it won't. Everyone wanted a chopper 15 years ago. There was no such thing as too many craft breweries five years ago. Knives turn will come. Not saying it will die completely, but it will come back to a more sustainable level, and the second-hand market for most of these blades will be dreadful owing to the oversupply and the inflated prices that were paid for them. If you're not happy with five knives, I assure you 15 or 50 won't satisfy you either.

The Condor K-Night looks great, but rather than "katana-y" I'd say it's more 'Wakazashi-y' due to the length. It does seem like a great machete. If I didn't have the excellent Terrachete, I might consider it. I'll admit the longer micarta handle of the K-Night is better than the Terra, but the blade shape and compound grind on the Terra are preferable. More than anything else, though, the lanyard hole on the Terra is in the proper place. Next time you see Joe Flowers, please tell him to smack the blade designers at Condor on the noggin and remind them no blade with a length over about 6 inches should leave the factory without a FRONT lanyard hole.

I think most people wouldn’t notice a huge difference with xhp and s30v but xhp takes a very keen polished edge unlike s30v. Also can be sharpened more easily on traditional stones since as DCA said it has chromium carbides instead of vanadium carbides, similar to the way Zdp189 can be sharpened on regular stones even at 65+ hrc. Shaman is a fine knife but ever since I’ve gotten the Bodacious I’ve kinda packed up the shaman and sent it home, although I still own a number of exclusives and sprint shaman(s). Now a Bodacious exclusive or sprint would be a head turner!

I have a Boker Kalashnikov in XHP that I've used consistently for years. The action is still fantastic, even though the aluminum frame is pretty beat up. It's the only blade I have in XHP, and it has performed exceptionally. Holds an edge, easy to sharpen and strop. I haven't had any rolling or chipping, but I also don't do abusive or "non-knife" things with my knives, so other's mileages may vary.

That Shaman with CTS-XHP is a STEAL!!! XHP is a great steel. It will hold an edge about the same as S30V, but it's got the toughness of S35VN if not a tiny bit more. Another great winner!
