the blue tint in the rhoto clear water sunscreen is meant to give a “transparent skin” look it’s a long-standing trend in japanese makeup where you “colour correct” with a slightly blue base product to cancel out any sallow dullness

As a note, because you say not to use these if you're going to be outside, Asian sunscreens are usually separated into daily sunscreens and outdoor sunscreens. These are all daily sunscreens, so feel on the skin is more important than adhesion. Outdoor sunscreens are typically labeled outdoor or "leports" (leisure + sport).

@@moxylady007 daily sunscreens and outdoor sunscreens aren't about PA rating, its about how they feel and look on the skin. I have to say I’ve been enjoying the Innisfree daily UV defense. I feel like it’s moisturizing but works well under make up and fine if you don’t wear make up as well. Unfortunately it isn’t waterproof but I will say I wore this recently under makeup to an outdoor concert venue. We got there at 12:45pm and I wasn’t able to reapply and I did not experience any sunburn on my face at all. It was 100 degrees and sunny. We had no shelter from the sun, there was no covering. We were there until 11:30pm. I know it’s important to reapply, so I’m not advocating not to. Just saying it worked great.

Saw this video and immediately bought Verdio and it’s the ONLY sunscreen that has actually improved my skin. Even better for me than beauty of Joseon SPF. I think I have rosacea because chemical sunscreens (among other things) seem to make my skin really red throughout the day (including beauty of Joseon unfortunately though it’s still my second fav). Verdio is the only one that seems to actually soothe my skin and some of my breakouts have gone down now after using. Plus the bottle is BIG and cost effective. Definitely worth the buy.

I believe the reason Asian sunscreens have a tint that helps with lightening or color correcting is bc the Asian culture tells women that fairer skin looks better. That’s the beauty standard in many if not all Asian cultures. I believe it’s quite intentional that their sunscreens give a bit whitening effect.

I am on the hunt for a good sunscreen that offers good protection, does not feel heavy and sticky, and ideally has a proper mat finish, which is very hard to find. What I am seeing is a lot of these sunscreens have some of the ingredients that I am purchasing a separate serum for, for example niacinimide in my Fragrance Free Olay Regenerist regenerating serum (which I really like because it's light and easy to apply for daytime or before bed). I think I will try a couple of your new recommendations and rotate with the sunscreen I currently use (Skin Aqua Super moisture gel) and eliminate the Olay serum....at least for daytime use. It gets to be a bit confusing with all these products we use on our face, and trying to not duplicate if possible. Makes it challenging when products are changing all the time, with newer better ones coming out. Thanks for sharing this wonderful review. It's time for me to look at this.

I like that the moisturizing sunscreens are SPF 50 because many moisturizing sunscreens are SPF 30. Do you know how I would find out if Japanese and Korean companies is cruelty-free?

I would love to try an Asian sunscreen because they seem so desirable to wear! But do you find that the UV filters tend to burn and sting the eyes or not so much? I usually stick to mineral sunscreens because my eyes are very sensitive but mineral sunscreens that don’t have a cast and aren’t greasy are hard to find

I got the omi verdio Japanese sunscreen on your recommendation when they were in little tubes, got two. But the stuff was so shiny and made every skin flaw stand out like acne scars. I put them in a drawer and never used it again. I wonder if the new version in the pump bottle is as shiny as when they came in those tubes.

I love Stylevanna, I stock up on my Korean Skin Care Products. I love the Verdio Moisturr Gel spf50 and the Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun: Rice + Probiotics. I'm dark skinned. These leave no white mask and my skin absorbs them really well. I live in Miaki and reapply up to 3x a day

I just received my package from Stylevana (Hong Kong) today with the Isntree watery sun gel, kiss me mommy, skin aqua, and OMI. I use sunscreen daily: tinted physical sunscreen on face (colorescience + Austrian golden) and not tinted preferably chemical sunscreen on neck and body to avoid staining clothes. Looking forward to trying Japanese sunscreens 🧴

How did the sunscreens work out for you? Any thoughts on buying from Stylevana? japanese sunscreens? gel vs milk vs essence? cosmetically elegant or waterproof or good for teenagers etc etc ??? All thoughts help. Thanks.

Hey Dr Dray, Love your videos. I really hope to try that rohto sunplay… U mentioned it has ultramarines in it, I believe it could possibly be to even out yellow tones on the skin… similar to how the green products even out redness. I suspect this because in laundry products, when white sheets/clothes start to develop a yellow tint they’ll use blue tint to help whiten the clothes… Just guessing, not too sure about this. Here in Northern California the rohto eye drops are popular amongst the stoner crowds, always been curious about trying their skincare myself… Love your videos, thanks for recommending.

Hi Dr. Dray, thank you so much for your content! I've been watching your videos for years. I have dry skin and it's very sensitive. I'm trying to find a sunscreen to use at home, but also outdoors. The products I thought to use outdoors all have avobenzone, but I heard it's not the best? Should I use something only with zinc oxide?

Hello Dr Dray.... Loved the video....I'm an avid daily (spf50) user and I'm always looking to try new sunscreens....I must admit I've tried so many from Aus, Asia, US & Europe/UK...I currently have a 'stash' of 8 different brands that I'm either using or waiting to use....But.....Most of the brands I've tried end up seeping into and stinging my eyes, which can get progressively worse thru-out the day. Drives me 'nuts'....The only exception to this, that I've found so far. Is my all time fave that I return to time after time: La Roche-Posay Anthelios UVMune 400 spf5o invisible fluid. It's not too expensive here in the UK and it's readily available.....and no 'eye-sting'... :)

Ahh you didn't review the Dear Klairs All-day airy sunscreen! I think you'd really like it for summer. I've only tried the Round Lab on this list, because my skin type is oily/acne-prone/sensitive, and there just aren't many sunscreens that can satisfy those points. I tried the Round Lab this summer, and it was too moisturizing for me. It left me pretty shiny. I haven't tried powdering over it though. It also left a slight white cast on my lighter medium-ish skin tone, especially on and around my facial hair. One big plus was it didn't sting my sensitive eyes, and it's rare for sunscreens with chemical filters to not sting me there. I'm going to come back to it during the winter.

Thank you for this video! I have been TERRIFIED to try more sunscreens since I used the Sun Bum Glow 30. My entire face broke out in a rash, bumps all over my forehead, cheeks..just everywhere that I applied it. It made both my eyelids and under eyes swell up and turn red and itchy and burn... It was scary.... So I have been needing to find something that my face can tolerate. Hoping one of these will work.

That's why it's always good to patch test new skincare items to make sure you don't have a reaction to the product. If your skin doesn't have an adverse reaction with 24 to 48 hours, then you should be good.

I didn't know Verdio has the big bottle. Thanks for the info, you know better than the Japanese(me)... Canmake is a make-up brand rather than a skincare one for me. I guess 30g or 40g sizes are too small for daily use. But maybe convenient for carrying around... By the way, I'm not a fan of two-layered type sunscreen. Shaking the bottle is troublesome and noisy, and that texture. Gel or Essence types are the best.
