Great review! I have the Dewalt XR Max Multi-tool. It’s one of the few Dewalt tools I have (have the Flexvolt 8 1/4” tablesaw and Dewalt’s first Max XR Dill and Impact). I just picked up the M12 Fuel Multi-tool kit. Looking forward to using it. I was looking at your tool list. Have you used the new(er) M18 Fuel Gen 2- 18 Gauge Brad Nailer yet? I will guarantee you that you’ll want to retire your Dewalt 18 Gauge Nail Gun immediately! The Milwaukee nailer has no ramp up winding sound, it nails as quick lunch as you can pull the trigger or press it to the surface. It uses a gas charged spring assembly, making it fast and powerful. It’ll outdrive the Dewalt, hands down. Not only that it isn’t as bulky and leaves beautiful nail holes! FYI, the new Fuel Multi-tool has a rubber pad in between the contacts to give the battery a tighter fit/grip. Are you in ID?

Cool video. I dont understand the comments about the dewalt oscillating tool blade change. It's one of the easiest. You push a paddle. no releasing this then turning a screw twice then putting something back down. It's a variable trigger as well no dial. Milwaukee has some awesome 12v tools but this isn't one in my opinion.

I was really excited to see the new generation of these, but was disappointed that they don’t have a trigger. I own mostly Milwaukee m12 and m18 cordless tools but still have a few Dewalts around... with the multi tool being the main one simply for the trigger. I owned the first generation m12 multi tool but never really used it that much. I’m sure I’d get used to the switch, but I just prefer triggers in my multilateral tools and my grinders. Great video, and I absolutely love the idea of sharpening the too-expensive-for-their-lifespan multi tool blades. Edit - it hasn’t happened to me, but my buddy broke one of the tabs on one or two of his m12 batteries. I don’t love the battery attachment but for everything else you get with the m12’s, it doesn’t affect my purchase decisions!

And yet I also have both the dewalt and M12... And i HATE the dewalt trigger lol. To each their own. I love the ease of changing blades on the dewalt but I can't stand the trigger. It's too hard to maintain a constant half speed or slower speed. I like to just set my dial where I need to be and go.
@martylucas8557
3 жыл бұрын
@@evictioncarpentry2628, same here! There’re probably a lot more of us then we realize, invested in the M12/M18 platforms, yet have a few Dewalt tools. In my case the Flexvolt 8 1/4” table saw, the first XR Brushless Drill/Impact and the XR Multi-tool. I happened to get a really good deal on the Dewalt multi-tool a year ago, paying $99.00 for tool, 4 blades, 25 pieces of sandpaper in different grits and sandpaper attachment, really bizarre plastic case, 2 amp battery, charger and carrying bag. What I also realized is I don’t like the trigger and grip. I thought I would, because ergonomically it fits the hand really well and the trigger allows good control of the variable speed. HOWEVER...the grip doesn’t allow a smooth movement in many cutting scenarios and the trigger is distracting. It distracts or takes focus away from concentrating on the cut, because I’m concerned about applying the right amount of speed to the blade, then keeping it constant. You’re spot on!
@martylucas8557

Johnathan, I hear what you’re saying, however what I’ve found is this...when I go to make a concise or intricate cut, I find myself focusing on the trigger speed and not 100% on the intricate cut. Whereas with the Milwaukee it’s set and forget.

I'm wondering if the new vibration dampening - which allows the cutting head some wobble - is responsible for letting the blade walk or skip a bit on a plunge cut.

@@TheFunnyCarpenter I have a Fein -- it has some flex at the head for vibration dampening - different tho - its like the whole front housing moves within the plastic shell. I'm going to see how it behaves on a plunge cut into some pre-primed trim. All my blades are straight edge, I don't have any curved so it should be similar to your trys. I'll report back.
@glavardera
3 жыл бұрын
Ok, I just tried my Fein on a piece of trim, full speed, straight edge bi-metal blade. (Wood nails). First thing I learned is I’m not so good at this. Made a dozen tries, got one good, two ok, the rest with divots. I tried careful slow and committed plunge, but I didn’t find one or the other more reliable. I, e never used an OMT with a rigid head so I really can’t compare, but I still suspect the flexible head has something to do with it. Try you clunky DeWalt and see how it handles. I’m picturing a sliding test sled that would take the steady hand out of the equation.
@zack6892
3 жыл бұрын
The vibration dampening not so much but it has a more aggressive oscillation angle then other units and this can lead to some jumping on plunge cuts. I wish they had kept the slow start like the original m12 but they only offer that on the m18 fuel.

This is fine for competing against the atomic by Dewalt (which has been around for years) but not really the XR. Even worse both the atomic and XR are much les expensive , and have been out with no competition for the longest. The M18 Fuel might be superior to the XR but just released and is much more expensive (unreasonably in my opinion).

@@TheFunnyCarpenter I’ll have to check it out. I know I’ve used my atomic in comparison the the m12 regular and the atomic would crush it in speed and performance. @@gjolinares23 the m12 fuel I'd say is pretty close to the xr it stays cooler and has less vibration. The xr has a better light and little more accurate given the trigger vs speed dial. M18 and M12 both have battery disconnect issues plus with my arthritis they both super hard to get the batteries out. I returned all my red just for that reason and went with dewalt for ergonomics and ease of battery changing, the small increase in power doesnt make milwaukee any better when your tool constantly loses battery connection huge fail imo.

The new fuel oscillating tools do not have this issue. I have the old one and it loses battery all the time the new ones dampen vibration so much though it's not even a factor. If you tried to stand the old one to while running it would wobble over but the new ones will stand on end with an XC battery without moving at all. I have ran DeWalt forever great tool although it can make my hands numb on long day the new m12 is way easier on your hands thanks to the vibration dampening this alone makes it a better option for somebody who wants to use it everyday.
@zack6892

I still prefer the DeWalt 20v line but I've been expanding into m12 and the fuel stuff is crazy nice and based off m12 I'd bet the m18 oscillating tool is probably the best in market without stepping into fein price range. Dewalt kinda lost me with the atomic I bought the atomic multi tool and the trigger failed in 6 months where my xr lasted years before having the same issue.
