Today we’re going to unbox and setup my new Dewalt DWS779, a 12in sliding compound miter saw! A miter saw is excellent for rip cutting lumber to very precise angles and lengths. It’s something that a table saw can do, but is usually less than $500 unlike a table saw.
The set up for this was really straight forward because it came as one monolithic structure, the only components were the small end extenders, a workpiece clamp and a dust bag. The latter two of which, I won’t be using much. If you plan to mount this to a table that will be even with a table top, don’t install the edge extenders because that is what your table is for.
One thing I did notice was on the dust collection, it feels like it’s making a lot of dust even with a vacuum attached. But when you run it without the vacuum, it makes a TON of dust. So, though not impeccable like the Bosch router table dust port, it works way better than nothing.
If you have any questions about the setup, feel free to leave them in the comments section down below.
Thanks as always and be safe,
Josh
