Tata will announce the price of the new Nexon EV tomorrow. How much more will you pay for it for the added features?

If the top-end goes up to 20L, Nexon LR will get close to the MG ZS EV that has a 25% larger battery pack and more range. The new design is clearly a winner and cleans up most of the dreadful things about the original, like the rear end. But it is sad that Nexon EV changed its skin and external features, but not the heart - the EV battery. When the Nexon EV was revealed in 2019, it carried a previous generation LFP battery from 2018 to keep costs low. In the last 5 years, LFP batteries have become much cheaper and energy dense (more KWH per kg weight and per litre volume). Instead of a modern LFP battery pack, Tata Motors is giving us same 5-year-old tech. 😒 The X1 platform of Nexon is from the late 90s! They have not updated the Nexon to their newer Alpha or Alpha EV architecture. (Altroz and Punch are on Alpha.) All this old platform + old battery approach means Tata Motors must have particularly good margins on this EV, and now there is talk of increasing prices further. In complete opposition to the global picture, where EVs are getting cheaper and adding more range! Tata Motors should take inspiration from Tesla strategy. In its main markets, Tesla has lowered pricing while improving range, making it exceedingly difficult for competitors to make a profit. Tata Motors have the market leadership in India. They can use their existing scale and EV supply chain to make it near impossible for the EV competition. Instead, they are focused on short-term profits. I hope this lack of forward thinking at Tata.ev does not lose them access to volume production of modern low cost, high energy LFP batteries.

Can you please elaborate more on LFP battery tech. What are we missing with older batteries? I’m stunned to know that Tata is using platform from the 90s😮

The green color screens look superb. Especially how it's green in centre and diffuses towards edges.

They might be working on making tin can battery for better range

@@fullmoonlongdrive7657 actually given their approach of making light Weight vehicles, their cars might indeed give superior range If the nexon does 300, maruti's equivalent should atleast do 360-390
