The joy-con's are pretty terrible. Stubby jerky short analog sticks, awful ergonomics, tiny cheap buttons, and the gyro motion is inferior to the Wii remote plus + Sensor bar since there's no reference/sensor bar on switch. We need a new advanced sensor bar/reference for proper cross hair/motion reliability, and a Pro controller with a more unique design, low latency with a couple of innovative bells & whistles.

I personally don't want the joycons to go. It's not about buying more gamepads for my cousins when we spend some weekends together, it's about the kind of games we play and how we like to play them. We heavily rely on the motion controls of the joycons to play Mario Tennis, or Mario Party or Wario Ware or similar games (And the have wheels for mario kart 8). I even do my cardio with Fitness Boxing 2 when there's heavy raining and I can't go outside. It's the interactive way that makes playing with others fun, in my personal experience at least. I understand not everyone plays switch games this way though, but the switch is a complementary system for me, so the big appeal for me aside nintendo games and the portability, is the interactive family games. I do the rest of my gaming on PC. That being said, I had to repair a ton of joycons because of drifting issues when I used the console in handheld mode. I'm hoping they can at least improve the sticks or use the magnetic design like the Gulikit sticks that I mounted on my units.

First of all, I'm thinking there will probably be a grove or something to help keep the magnetic Joy-Con in place. And second, it would be for the best for the old Joy-Con to work on the new system at least over Bluetooth. And even if the new system isn't backwards compatible out of the box on the hardware front, an adapter will likely be sold by either Nintendo or a trusted third-party manufacturer such as Hori.

Three reasons for the switch (no pun) in Joycon charging tech: 1) Redesigned Joycons that work better than the original model. 2) Wireless charging for devices is pretty commonplace these days. 3) The physical rails were exploited pretty early on to allow for jailbreaking. Making it a simple wireless charging system with no data connection means that’s no longer an open vector.

What I have in my head is that we can get an updated dock with ssd, with power and 4k etc. And the switch itself remains the same or almost the same with its memory. So when playing on TV it would use the dock memory + switch memory. When handheld - only switch 😇

I do hope the magnets are stronger than the short screws they used in the joycons. My daughter was holding my switch with one hand(she was holding the right joycon) the screw near the top of the rail popped out causing the rail to beak from the joycon and the system fell to the floor.
@mykstericeferg1258

The magnets could mean that the system will sport a more clean, and thereby sleek look and possibly- that perhaps joycons are optional depending on use?🤷 (not only could the magnets fail occasionally, but a few years down the road could weaken and fail completely)🧐
@Michaelhood0

I think if the procontroller will work than I believe the joycons will also be compatible. I think its not a bad thing to make them compatible as the majority would like more controllers without having to invest in more hardware. I use the pro controller majority of time and if I play with the wife the joy con's go into thecontroller adapter. But if I have more people I actually have adapters I have 3d printed that give them a complete full sized controller function and feel and I have printed a slightly smaller design for kids with small hands.
