there is no equal - Canada has produced a lot of great bands - but there is no equal - thank gawd there is a legacy of recorded music that will make this band and this genius live forever - if anyone thinks I'm over selling this I challenge you to meet me at the hundredth meridian to settle it!

No challenge, no need to settle anything, but wouldn't it be cool if every year we (and I mean Canadians) would travel and meet at the hundredth meridian ( somewhere just west of Brandon, MB) every year in the summer (specific date yet to be determined) to celebrate Hip & other Canadian music (french included), kinda like a Canadian style burning man festival.

GREAT lyrics! Bourbon blues on the street, Loose and complete Under skies all smokey blue-green I can't forsake A dixiedead-shake So we danced the sidewalk clean My memory is muddy, what's this river that I'm in? If New Orleans is sinking man, then I don't wanna swim Colonel Tom, What's wrong? What's going on? You can't tie yourself up for a deal He said, "Hey north you're south Shut your big mouth, You gotta do what you feel is real" Ain't got no picture postcards, ain't got no souvenirs My baby, she don't know me when I'm thinking 'bout those years ***** I had a job before this, I had a job before this, Ultimately, it was that job that drove me into this. I worked at an aquarium An aquarium with lots of money from the government, so it was HUUUGGEE! I uh I was a clean 'n' scrub man we called each other in the C'n'S union. I scrubbed the inside of the killerwhaletank. The ... and after a while the boys in the C'n'S ... clean 'n' scrub We just sort of made it one word the killerwhaletank, the killerwhaletank uh, the killerwhaletank uh. I'm going into the killerwhaletank UH yeah. I got along with these two big beasts so well, it was like they knew me, they looked at me with their hundred year old eyes, and it was like they knew me. High, I'd put on my SCUBA gear, my mask, my regulator, {breath} and I'd fall into the tank with nary a sound maybe a pfftt. And then I was underwater. Sometimes, I'd jump out, Right in front of the window when people are expecting a killerwhale and they see a human, they get spooked. Spooked. Anyway I'd do that. But I was in the water this particular day, unbeknownst to me, Shamu and Bartholomew, their relationship had grown stale, seems I was going in there so much and I was looking so good, Shamu took a shining to me, and they're so smart those things ya know they've got all these human emotions, love, lust, GREEN hundred year old eye jealousy. Bartholomew was LIVID! Unbeknownst to me ... I can't hear a goddamned thing underwater! He came up he was bumping up against me a lot. The stale, killerwhale, bumping up against someone so pale and frail. How was I to know the killerwhale Relationship had gone stale, well, he brushes up against me a couple of times, skin's like sandpaper I say, "Hey man, Bartholomew what's up? What's up? What's going on big fella? What is it? What is it? I, I don't wanna steal your mommy, and I sure don't want to take the place of your daddy, I only want to be your friend." And he circled around and I thought we were all patched up and I was scrubbing and he took my ... he came up, he came up, he came up, he ripped my left arm off. I mean the killerwhale they're beasts of the deep they're I mean they're quite docile and friendly in captivity but somewhere along the line, the thousands of years of breeding just snapped and he took my left arm, man he took my left arm, took my f*cking left arm "Wha-What is it Bartholomew?" I spoke to him in a language he could understand, as I came back." Vocalizations ***** Pale as a light bulb hanging on a wire Sucking up to someone just to stoke the fire Picking out the highlights of the scenery Saw some little clouds that looked a little like me I had my hands in the river My feet back up on the banks Looked up to the lord above And said, "Hey Carol thanks" Sometimes I feel so good, I gotta scream She said Gordie baby I think I know exactly what you mean She said, she said, I swear to god she said... My memory is muddy what's this river that I'm in? If New Orleans is sinking man, then I don't wanna swim Swim!

The band really do a fantastic job during the whole rant. They don't overpower it or anything, but they still keep things musically interesting the entire way through and even ramp up the tension of the monologue where appropriate ("and then I was underwater", "Shamu and... Bartholomew").

Americans will never, and I mean never understand what these guys meant to us. Gonna share my story. I’m in with 21 Hip shows before Gordie went. Have two of his setlists in which he handed to me front row in Guelph and fort york. But I’m grade 9 I was in drama class, and I hated it. But the project was walk on stage and recite a monologue. And I won’t say her name but she was very close friend. 14 years or 15, whatever it was. She gets up and recites this entire tune word for word. I was like nope you’re fucking kidding me. She’s all of 5 feet and weighs like 100 pounds and she’s just crushing the killerwhaletank

Would the ending hav been, Gordon killed the whale? Lol that's how I imagine it, anyway.
