Tommy Collins wrote some great songs, this could well be his best. Actually it’s one of the best country songs ever by anybody.

Now and then an old friend tries to help me By telling me there's someone that I should meet Hey, but I don't have the heart to start all over 'Cause my heart is laying at another's feet You just don't put new patches on old garments Hey, I don't want no one else on my mind I just don't need nobody new to cling to, Lord 'Cause I still love someone I've known a long, long time I have built my world around a memory And she's the only one that I let in 'Cause every time I've tried to love somebody, Lord In my mind I'm loving her again You just don't put new patches on old garments Hey, and I don't want no one else on my mind I just don't need nobody new to cling to, Lord 'Cause I still love someone I've known a long, long time Yes, I still love someone I've known a long, long time

Mel Tillis sang this song in 2017 in Edmonton Alberta, home of the Edm Oilers, a Hockey Team that was once great, with 5 Stanley Cups, it is a full fledge Hockey Town, but a Real Cowboys' Town...

My dad wrote this song about my mother. He knew he had "blown it" with her, but he loved her until the day he died. At the time this song came out, my dad asked me to go play it for my mom and to "watch her facial expressions", and to get back to him and "tell him what she looked like as she listened to it." I'll never forget that. Mel Tillis always mentioned my dad before he sang it on every show he did. Mel personally told me that this was his all time favorite song. Thanks for posting it. Listen to two more songs written about my mother, by my dad, recorded by Mel... After All This Time, and Someone Else Tends the Garden.
