One of my hens learned how to pull the roosting bar down on the hen gear box! 😮

Josey and I just processed 6 Cornish Cross I couldn't imagine doing 1000, lots of work. Great video sounds like you got it planned out. Thanks

Just finished processing Sasso's this past weekend (12 week). Had smaller mortality rate, same amount of feed, looking forward to determining if the taste is worth the extra 4 weeks. (We do not sell at market.)

in my exp with bielefeleder hens, they do not lay eggs at all during the winter months (zone 6). We plan to process them this fall with our last batch of meat birds.

Love the drone views of your farm. Your set up is awesome and I'd like to someday mold our homestead set up for our animals after yours. Very efficient! Thanks for all of your videos and information on the chickens today. We are working hard to Make the Change. It may take a few years and finding just the right place is key. We are waiting on the Lord for His direction. We have faith that He will lead us to it. ☺

We don't sell eggs or chickens, but we raise our own food. We switched over to American Bresse last year and have done several comparisons on the meat quality. The breast meat of the Bresse is definitely better than the Cornish Cross. More tender, more flavorful. The breasts are slightly smaller. The leg quarters on the Bresse are not as good as the Cross. That's really an unfair comparison as all we've processed on Bresse have been roosters. We have 20 chicks at around 6 weeks now so we will have a better comparison soon. I'm really leaning towards doing what you plan. Going back to sex-link for eggs and just doing 50 Cross 1-2x per year. The Cross are more labor intensive but only for 7 weeks or so. If there's no real improvement in the quality of meat then they make more sense. I understand the sustainability issue with hybrids and don't disagree, but that's really not my main concern. No piglet shots? We just raise a couple of feeder pigs every year for our use and shoot 2-3 deer for our red meat. We have been doing this for a while and used to grow some beef cows, but they just take too long and require too much pasture for our needs.

I’ve been buying the AB meat from a local producer and it is awesome! I smoke both behind quarters and the breasts and it’s all good. I bought a flock of eight hens and a rooster and they’ve produced 49 offspring. Most of them are destined for freezer camp. I will keep some for Eggs and I’m going to line breed a few of them. I also have a smaller flock of black Australorps for Eggs
