@@felixfischer4661 Because the resistance to acceleration is more consistent. You'd have to set up the trainer specifically to imitate "hill climb" resistance with a much bigger flywheel than you can normally get. In theory, it's possible. But it's probably also possible for many people to develop smooth cadence to come just as close in terms of the power curve but it takes more specific training rather than intuitive grunting and getting the shoulder and torso involved. Also, the longer the effort the less it matters. Steadier is better as the time of the effort increases.

Incredible power! Why are the bikes not striped down or special purpose for the race, rules? Who needs a seat, brakes, gears, dropped bars, water bottle holders (a flat handlebar might be a more powerful grip and lighter?)?

For bikes to qualify with the UCI (regulatory body) they have to be over 7kg and have to follow the typical mould of a bike

Andrzej Sawicki the only registered speed in aerodynamics is the pressure called downforce and that’s at 70mph ! It actually works as stupid as you sound your dead ass wrong , 20kph and your riding into any sort of head wind it helps to draft or you’ll be putting out the wattage as the wheel in front and it has nothing to do with instinct , you obviously never sat in a peloton before ! Just leave the commenting to the cyclists or basically anyone that knows wtf they talking about 🤣

I'm from the UK where we have a massive hill climbing scene, you can go out and do hill climbs like this twice a weekend in September and October, usualy there are anywhere from 1-10 mins. One of the best at the short climbs here is called Calum Brown and he regulaly does around 900-1000w for 60 seconds at around 65kg insane.

Two odd things stood out to me. In the first heat there was a guy with a jacket on that was billowing in the wind. That had to slow him down. In the second heat the guy with the dark green t-shirt on had a water bottle on his bike.Either he forgot or decided he wanted to add extra weight to his bike. I can't imagine he was going to take a drink during that race. Like I said odd things I noticed.
