It does not have a fixed barrel though, the barrel recoils back until it gets unlocked just like with any other modern pistol. It just does not tilt, similarly to Beretta 92 or CZ vz. 52 and others, only the locking mechanism is somewhat different. The locking piece-vertical block in the front part of the gun-is controlled by slant surface at the tip of recoil spring rod (for unlocking) and by the shape of frame bottom (for locking back).

I know the gun is only single action so would a de-cocker work on it? I'm trying to think of single action pistols with a de-cocker, but I haven't thought of any yet. A de-cocker would be great though if they ever make a CCW friendly version of this pistol.
@olddirtbiker5088
Жыл бұрын
Not much point in having a decocker on a single action pistol if it lets the hammer go forward and not fire the chambered round. To get the pistol back in action you would have to get the hammer back again which would mean racking the slide, ejecting the unfired round and taking the safety off. A 1911 by comparison can be carried cocked and locked with the hammer back, safety on, round in the chamber. It is surprising the Rock Island has no safety except for the trigger dingus, especially as the trigger pull is pretty light.
@Paelorian
Жыл бұрын
The head of RIA Martin Tuason in his TFBTV SHOT Show interview regarding this pistol that they spent months making the single-action trigger heavier. He also promised it was excellent and that spring kits would be available to bring it back down to 2lbs or so. This SAO pistol should operate like the typical striker-fired pistol, such as a Glock. I'm a fan of DA/SA pistols with a decocker. While it would increase mechanical complexity, it's possible that if the pistol is a success someday they could release variants that feature double-action, a manual safety, and/or a decocker. It is, after all, a hammer-fired semi-auto. I like a long and somewhat heavy first trigger pull and no manual safety. A greater safety margin than conventional striker-fired or SAO, and with practice one can master that long first trigger pull. I also like triggers such as H&K's LEM that are more long than heavy on the first shot, giving much of the double-action benefit without the weight. I'm sad the Walther P99 is being discontinued, because it has a great Anti-Stress (AS) trigger that emulated DA/SA in a striker-fired gun. There's still the Beretta PX4 and H&K P30, which are great modern DA/SAs, but they're both somewhat clunky for concealed carry compared to newer pistols. Hopefully some new more modern carry pistols will be released. Because right now, nothing in my preferred DA/SA decocker style comes close to matching the efficiency of the Sig P365 series.

The Beretta PX4 Storm also has a unique operating system with its rotating barrel. It also goes straight back, and has lugs on the barrel that rotate and unlock the barrel from the slide. I think the Desert Eagle gas powered handguns look pretty cool too. They're way too expensive for me, but it would be cool to try one some day. I think the gas system is supposed to help with the felt recoil.
@ms.annthrope415

Thr DE is a gas operated pistol using a rotating bolt that is very similar to the AR system. It uses twin recoil springs, one on each side below the barrel. The slide weighs more than some entire pistols. The only question is, why? Sure, it can fire high-powered handgun rounds like .357 magnum, .44 magnum, and the .50 AE, but it is so large it has no real purpose besides limited use as a hunting handgun or steel silhouette pistol. It has no real defense or offense use for military, LE, or civilian use. The military and LE can use short barreled rifles and shotguns, more powerful and using two-handed operation, more accurately controlled without violating federal laws. So what about civilian defense use? Too large for carry. It's too large for anything but nightstand storage. But what can it do that a .357 magnum revolver can't?

Man you get one little thing in that slide. I'm sure it shoots like a dream, or like a CZ! I do know that you can get a CZ full of dirt and probably have a usable firearm though. RIA is a great company and they have really stepped up they're game. For the money you get very reliable firearms. Palmetto and RIA all day long if you want something that works and affordable. I can't believe I've been watching Sootch for 10 years? We both have a little more greys! Thanks for all the hard work bro!

John Mc Clain from RIA said its a 92 mag but with a different mag catch location. Martin also said they will be coming out with smaller sizes like 4.25, 3" as well as other calibers 9mm and 22TCm in the future. Just thought I would update some fans . I'm so glad Sootch got one of these way early from RIA, and he and Robbie have shown us much more about it. I cant wait to get a 4.25" version when they come out.

As a heavy CZ enthusiast and active proponent, there's a lot to love with these. I'm totally frothing at the gills, and I hope the optics cut comes with a front sight option at some point. Not a deal killer outright, just not sure why they'd opt to make you choose one or the other.

You want to talk about a Bull Barrel; Holy Hell is that a beef-cake! Now make that in a compact carry and yup I'm all in. I carried a 5" 1911 for years and I imagine that this would be about the same experience, so I would be that guy who would carry it. The design is straight genius. It provides just about every thing we love in a finely tuned 1911 trigger with the slide to frame fitment of the CZ-75, slim frame width, and virtually no components that can cause a snag thanks to internal hammer and no external safety switch. It has brought a 2011 9mm into modern format with some never before seen tech that while it makes field stripping a bit more of a chore provides the most ridiculously flat shooting pistol I have ever seen on your channel. Thanks for the deep dive Sootch.

My only problem I can see with this design is the choice of materials. Steel slide + Aluminum frame to me seems to be a bad mix. That frame is going to wear out faster than that slide riding in those rails. It is going to loosen up over time and I think the shots will get sloppy. I would have preferred an all steel frame personally. That would have also lent to a more balanced weight for even faster follow on shots to be more accurate. I am certainly interested in this one though. Hoping that RIA makes a 5.1 where the .1 is a steel frame :)

He said that it was all Ceracoated, so maybe not much wear?.........................elsullo
@checkyoursixgaming
Жыл бұрын
@@elsullo2 The wear I am referring to is metal fatigue. Has nothing to do with coating. Steel, a much stronger and harder metal, being rammed around inside aluminum, a much more malleable and weaker metal, is going to deform the aluminum over time. That isn't a speculation but a statement of fact. It will happen. Now the question is how long it takes for deformation to start to be noticeable enough to affect things like accuracy first. Accuracy will go and eventually functionality, but that would be way later in most cases. Still, I can easily see accuracy issues occurring around 4000 rounds or so. The tolerances of the rails is just going to change and the slide will just be looser in the rails.
