Such a beautiful, dignified and impressive family. So sorry for this terrible loss and for all the years you had to spend fighting for justice for your brother.

Sickening behaviour by that group of thugs. Bad enough to suffer from a serious mental illness (about which he had no choice) but to have his life taken in such a horrendous way, is so unspeakable.

I have just watched our Department of Justice report today on mistreatment of people with mental illness in Phoenix Arizona, USA. This was such inhumane of Michael, a man who struggled to reach his medical appt. I saw a light of warmth in his eyes. Surely I hope the music he loved embraces his family as time passes. He showed character and grace during his mental challenges as did his family on his behalf.

This case is a beacon of light in a dark landscape of injustice. The Menson family have rendered an immense service to all who expect the police to serve and protect us without prejudice.

So sorry to Michael and his family. Such a no brainer that police must investigate situations before drawing a conclusion. How many people would set themselves on fire? This method of murder, setting a person on fire is torture, which makes the decision to not investigate, stupid! There was a police Supervisor who signed off on the officer's report of the incident with the conclusion not to investigate. Ultimately it is his/her fault, more than the officer's. That is why you are paid the bigger bucks-to assess and correct conclusions made by officers!!

Every officer has the responsibility to investigate. Certainly the supervisor signing off was BS but the officers bare responsibility as well.

Amen. The original officers and their supervisor failed Michael Menson and his family. They did not attempt to get a statement from Michael, they did not involve a psychiatrist, they did not involve a pathologist. Thank God Michael had his family to advocate for him.

I don't see how the police could have initially thought he did it to himself. The mechanics of sel-infliction don't add up. If he did it to himself, wouldn't it make more sense that he would have poured the accelerant on top of his head and splashed down his front? The fact that he was burned on his back and buttocks without any head or frontal involvement just doesn't make sense. Sincerest condolences to his lovely family for their loss.💐

He was an outpatient in "a residential home looking after himself." WTF ?? A "residential home" is meant to be caregivers helping people not safe to live alone -- but he was sent out alone at night? His illness had been profound, and could recur. That posh family could afford deluxe care. These aren't symptoms that the general public could be expected to understand and assist well with. Tragic.

The First Responders should have been fired. A man that's been set on fire and literally was just put out and he's mumbling incoherently is a sign of mental illness? Again, people should have been fired, but I know they weren't how do you ever have confidence in the police again?

This show bothers me on several levels. They have "champion" music in the background, for what is now, an incredible opportunity for the police force to CHANGE..... huh what?!?!? How come the police force wasn't doin' that s💩 from the beginning!?!?! And I mean this in the nicest possible way. What's it called when one wants to put a positive spin on something really crappy? ☮️💖🌻

The police can’t win. On the surface, the incident seemed self-inflicted because his mental illness made it plausible. Obviously, the original police investigators were very inexperienced. Although, many wished to frame this as police not caring about a black man, it was his mental illness that made them believe it was suicide, not his race. i am sorry for his pain and suffering.
