Greetings Old Timer. I like your ford f150 content. keep them coming. I have a 1997 ford f150 that has the same harmonic damper balancer that needs to be removed for the same issue with a leaking front cranshaft seal and I wanted to ask you about the steps. After I remove the fan shroud and serpentine belt, I can then remove the harmonic balancer bolt. Followed with attaching the harmonic balancer pulley tool to the damper for removal? Lastly, after removal of damper and leaking seal and installation of new seal, I can then use the old damper bolt to press the damper balancer onto the egine until the crank moves with my wrench? It sounds easy as long as you have the correct tools.

be careful using the same bolt to install the pulley, it's not long enough, you really need to make sure you catch a few threads before running it home. Stripping out the block wouldn't be good.

mine has been doing that for years.. i replaced the seal 3 times, but it kept leaking... My girl friends balancer was going bad one day and it was leaking oil too, so i replaced it, dodge journey. Once i replaced it with a new seal, and a balancer it didn't leak at all. replacing mine with a new balancer today and well see if it leaks afterwards. but im thinking, its the balancer that creates the leaking from vibration... just a thought..

How much would this cost to get done at the dealership? I just started a job that requires me to work weekends too, or i would do it myself.
