I have a little video of my dog unboxing a new bed on his birthday 😸 It was so cute but totally unrelated to plants so I posted it on a different channel here in case anyone wants some more cute Phineas time: kzitem.info/news/bejne/kn-qspejsn2hdaw 🐾📦💜🥰

STOP! Can we just take a second and talk about this AMAZING editing on this video? 😳 It was like watching a movie! I loved the part when you were sitting down talking and then it cut to you poring up the coffee but we could still hear you talk. Small details like that gives me chills 🥺🤍 Please make more videos like this!

I'm a lab tech in training and because it's kinda my thing, here's your explanation for why copper bands work as a snail repellent: their slime oxidizes the copper, creating copper ions (kations) that are slightly toxic - it's toxic enough that the snail feels it, but not toxic enough to kill them

If you want desert food plant recommendations out here in New Mexico I've had good luck with corn, tomatoes, peppers, zucchini, ginger, kale, and like all of the spices. They all grow pretty good in containers too, if they aren't over crowded. For the ginger and potatoes I just buy them at the grocery store and just put them in the ground. For the corn, tomatoes, peppers, and kale I don't fuss too much about the specific type since they all seem to do pretty good. It can be rough in the spring since the nights get cold in the high desert, but I found that's usually the best time to plant. It gives the plants time to harden before the major heat hits in mid June through mid August.

So excited about your outdoor gardening journey!! I just set seedlings outside (south side of Chicago) last week, but have some domes to cover them on the chilly nights, while they’re small. This is my third summer growing here and I still don’t have my raised beds yet. Take your time on planning and enjoy the space! 🎉 Happy bday Phinneasss!! 🎂

Yay to the first strawberry tasting!! Also maybe you guys can look into a clover lawn (or since you like to experiment, half of it can be clovers 😂) since it’s still aesthetically pleasing but has a lot of benefits.

yes!! I'm so intrigued by clover lawns, thanks for the suggestion! Every time I see someone showing off their clover lawn it always looks so amazing🤩 Although I did just see a reel where a guy is flipping out about how his neighbor planted clover and it's invading his property 😅 so I need to do some research because one of my neighbors has a really elaborate landscaping thing going on and I wouldn't want to cause them problems... but yeah there will probably be some lawn-alternative-experimentation happening down the line 💜 Thanks for watching Leona 😊🍓

Love the editing style of this video ^^ very aesthetic. As far as growing outside in the heat, a shade cloth might come in handy for the days it gets over 90-100 degrees. It will help keep the micro ecosystem under the cloth a bit cool so the plants don't stress out too much with the heat. Plus it will help keep the soil moist for a little longer. Happy growing! :)

Happy Birthday Phin!!! I’m definitely going to watch your birthday vlog - so adorable!! 💙🐾 I was laughing at him rolling on the worm! I haven’t seen my dogs’ reaction to worms, but they definitely love to roll in rabbit/deer/and any other creature’s poop that they find in our yard! It’s so disgusting and I make my husband bathe them immediately! I don’t understand the appeal at all! I have the same mugs as you!!! Except my husband and I are tea drinkers, no coffee in our house except for keurig pods for guests. Your backyard is gorgeous!! I’m trying to think of a solution for you but the only thing I can think of is if you elevated your raised beds to leave room for the sprinklers? I don’t know how high they come up so that might not be a good option… besides the fact that I have no idea how to accomplish that, lol. Do you have a wall around the whole backyard? Our house is in a development that used to be woods and we back up to woods behind us, hence all of the rabbits, deer, fox, skunks and who knows what else come out at night. I was wondering if your strawberry was going to be bursting with flavor!! I used to work on a Community Farm and when I was in the fields, I would get to “sample” the strawberries and cherry tomatoes. The flavors were so different from what you buy in the grocery stores - it’s really incredible how much better they taste when they’re grown at home, or in a local garden! I have a question for you about Hoyas that no one really seems to give me a definitive answer. I have a few different varieties and my Hoya Retusa, Obovata and Compacta all give me gorgeous flowers and have multiple peduncles. However, while my Hoya Pubicalyx and Hoya Maculata both have multiple peduncles, they drop the flowers before they bloom. I don’t understand what they want as I treat all of my Hoyas the same. I use the Orchid fertilizer on them and I pretty much water them every other week, unless the leaves are super thick and sturdy, then I’ll wait until the third week. So it’s just so strange how some of them flower beautifully and then those two are so stubborn. Any ideas for me? I read the explanation the person left explaining the copper and the slugs - so interesting! I had no idea about that! I’m looking forward to seeing how your food plants grow throughout the summer and Fall and seeing what harvest you get from them! Thank you for sharing! 💜💚🪴🌵

Sharon😙💜💜💜💜!!! thanks for your enthusiasm always, i love reading your comments 🥰 My yard is entirely enclosed and I don’t think I have any woodland friends (or enemies haha) in this area but there are definitely coyotes and apparently rattlesnakes but thankfully so far no animal smells besides worms for him to roll in 😆 your dogs must have a lot of fun with all gross goodies they find haha! sorry that must be a pain for you though I’m not sure about the hoya situation! my pubicalyx has never bloomed for me so it could be that it’s more particular than others or needs higher humidity or something but I really don’t know, I wish I could be more helpful! maybe it’s time to try singing to them ☺️🤞

I have a random question. I have a PPP and it has a lot of the very vibrant variegation. The last leaf that came in was mostly burgundy at first and then when it hardened it did have some faint light pink streaking. The pink on that leaf is now looking sunburnt/stressed but it is under a LED light bulb, not even a grow light, and none of the other leaves have acted burned but I realize it is getting a bit taller. So would you think this is actually a burn or would you think it is just that specific spot of variegation died off fast bc it couldn't photosynthesize or even maybe came out damaged? I don't mind the lower variegation or the burgundy brown leaves as they harden off and the colors, including the green, seem to get more vibrant. I am just confused by the fact it seems to have got burnt by a lamp with an LED light that isn't hot HAHAHA I have had all sorts of different plants under that specific bulb without that issue! The pink princess is definitely her own level of crazy though!
@reallybigplant
Жыл бұрын
I think your hunch is right that it’s probably just a particularly weak area with variegation.. areas of white variegation that are from a mutation (like in the ppp) tend to be weaklings their whole life in my experience, and the highly variegated leaves always die off before less variegated leaves, with the areas of light variegation browning first. I bet you’re right that it’s not the light bulb, she is just a temperamental princess 😅. it could also be that more humidity might help with future leaves

if it’s the newest leaf suddenly dying off you should check for thrips too just in case 💜

Why do so many planty people have chihuahuas??? (I do too!) Or is he/she Pomeranian? PS I love the cinematic value of your videos :) Raised beds would be best if you have very fluctuating temperatures. Maybe a shade cloth in summer. Keep the water up to them.

You have to separate all kinds of plants like that when you buy them from Lowe’s or Home Depot type stores. There growth will be stunted fighting with each other

Personally, I really hate American lawns ! They make me so depressed and full of dread xD I guess that's what it's like to not be American. But seriously I do not understand the point of them. The local flora and fauna would be so much happier with native plants.

ahhh I think I agree with you 🥲 "hate" might be a bit strong for me but I almost always prefer a wild look to a super curated one... and yeah the grass seems to attract mostly flies, lots and lots of flies, it would be way better to have some butterflies and hummingbirds instead 🙃 thanks for watching and sharing your opinion 💜
