These were great in-depth tips. I haven't seen anyone do them so concise. I'm an IT guy and when we're trying to instruct employees I do this. I go through the process myself and document the steps. In my case I take screenshots along the way as if I'm putting together a user manual. Video instructions like yours will be a big help as a potential new Tesla owner. I'll certainly refer back to them in June when I take delivery. Thanks...!!

Thank you so so much! I figured out over 90% of this stuff on my own by trial and error. I don’t watch other peoples videos hardly ever. And the user manual wasn’t updated yet. So I really appreciate you noticing. And that is EXACTLY how I do it too! Pictures step by step and notes! Then video! I do it at work to for surgery. This is an actual self made user manual. And it was a lot of work and a lot of mistakes to figure it out! 💚

Sweet, thanks for the update! I love getting the chance to see the menus to get a preview of what I will see on my delivery day (getting closer, maybe March!). I keep having to fix things on my 2009 Murano, (replaced the A/C compressor, a 12 v battery, now an alternator) and I keep thinking “Gaaa, I could have bought neat accessories for my new Model Y instead!” At least my Subaru still works, so I’m keeping that one forever. I’m hoping the Model Y will go 10 years without any major repairs. Thanks for showing the details and minor upkeep issues, it’s really helpful. When delivery day gets down to “weeks away”, I’m going to get that giddy feeling I used to get as a kid waiting for Chrismas! Actually, this IS my Christmas present, but it’s a few months late. I can't believe I watched from start to finish. Thank you for making this video. I ordered my 2022 Model 3 Performance last Monday and it said I had 3 months to wait and then this morning it says June 6th to July 4th. I was told it's because I bought the Red exterior with the White interior plus the Performance model that my production was going to move fast versus the other models that people have to wait for until 2023. I would have just bought the original car I really wanted and that was a new BMW M3 Competition but this thing is $35,000 cheaper, a hair faster and I don't have to spend $7.00 + per gallon here in Southern California. Anyway, you made the video so smooth for me anyway and I like your tone, your pitch/delivery of what could be done and your experiences. Though I am a few weeks away from getting my new ride, I have drowned myself in Tesla videos and out of the 10 or so videos I have watched, you by far are the best. You obviously exemplify professionalism in every sense of the word. ~DC

Nice tutorial. I was unaware of "save that". I have a tip for you. I had to reset my cellphone (reset cell provider, wifi and Bluetooth). While the phone continued to worked as a key to get into the car, Bluetooth was no longer connected for phone calls, messages, contacts etc. I had to go into the Bluetooth settings and "forget" my phone (even doing this, the phone continues to work as a key). I then added it back as a new Bluetooth device. That worked. Kind of an obscure tip, but one that will drive one crazy if you have this problem.

Oh my gosh, I’m so happy I was able to help you get used to it!!!! I mean I love 90% of the update. But this was a hard video to make for sure. Trying to figure everything out on my own. The only things I learned from someone else were the two voice commands from the two different Johns. The rest took me about 2 weeks to figure it all out. So I understand. Then the tire pressure I didn’t get it figured out 100 until the night was editing and realized I did it wrong the first 3 times. Sigh. It was a huge update and the user manual was not updated with it. But we made it, Patti! And overall, I am in love and I hope you can enjoy it a lot more now. I didn’t even cover half the stuff! Just the things that people specifically asked me about that they couldn’t figure out. Insane! Thanks for your support! Have a great week!

Thank you for all the tips. As a video production guy I would suggest turning off your auto-focus to stop the focus from changing from the screen to your hand and back again. :)

Thank you, Scott!!! And yes, that’s very good advice on the auto-focus. Unfortunately, I use my iPhone to film… and it doesn’t have the option to turn autofocus off. Ugh. I’ve tried real video cameras, but to be honest I returned them because it’s just so easy and a lot less time consuming to record with my phone and airdrop the videos to my MacBook. Perhaps one day if I ever get big enough to have a camera crew I will get a real camera 🎥 😂 But seriously, thank you. Any and all advice and constructive criticism is ALWAYS welcome here. Excellent video. As expected, I learned a couple new options. I usually leave the wipers on auto, but when I need to do a single swipe (usually to placate my girlfriend when it's drizzling and I'm not bothered yet), I didn't know the voice command would work to return it "auto". So that's helpful. The other was the text screen that's now available. I was occasionally annoyed when I didn't get to a text message fast enough (that pesky driving aways gets in the way) and the message disappeared. Now I know I can still get to it. The one option I would appreciate for text would be to reply all when I get a group text. When I reply now to a group text (usually my brother and sister...about my mom 😊) it only goes to whoever sent the message and not both. Didn't realize that for a while. So that would be a good option. Well worth the wait. Seeing your notebook, that was clearly a lot of work. I (we) really appreciate the research you do. So thanks. Good luck with the drivers training. With your large tribe you're gonna get pretty good at it. Maybe another side hustle?? Probably too stressful. I only had to survive 2 of my own.

so Tesla does not provide an updated voice commands list, users are expected to repeatedly guess until they luck upon the proper wording? Bad Tesla. -- I can easily discover what Tesla users are complaining about with UI changes via youtube; apparently Tesla chooses to ignore drivers' opinions of their cars' UI. What genius at Tesla decided to make the regeneration/discharging representation line razor thin.

I have had people tell me and send me voice command lists but I couldn’t open them because they were links. But they were made by drivers, not Tesla. I am not aware of a readily available list distributed by Tesla. But I just tweeted does Tesla have a voice command list I don’t know about. So we shall see! I don’t personally have a major problem with the update. I love 90% of it. Just not 100%. But a lot of people don’t like change. And I get it. But I think it’s great that Tesla is always updating trying to make things better and newer. And if something really sucks they’ll change it later I’m sure. I personally love it. But that doesn’t mean I haven’t worked my butt off trying to figure it all out on my own with no help. I did. Some things were easy some things were ridiculous. I didn’t figure out tire pressure until last night at 9:30 pm. I shot the original video 2 weeks ago . I had to reshoot and figure out the tire pressure thing last minute. I thought I had it the first and second shoot but I didn’t.. so yeah. Definitely glass half empty/ half full situation.

Recirculated air does not bring in fresh air. if the car has been sitting in the sun in particular there will be a concentration of PVC gas in the car which is quite toxic. It would be interesting to know how the HEPA filter deals with this. also recirculated air may not defog as quick as outside air.
@SaraJAwesome
2 жыл бұрын
Correct, recirculating air does NOT bring in fresh air. When it’s blue, that means it is recirculating. When it’s grey, it IS bringing in fresh air and recirculating is OFF. Good point about the car sitting the sun though. Didn’t know that but I always let all the hot air of the car before trying to get cooled off from the A/C. Everyone should release all the hot air before closing the doors and windows and driving off. Also, when I have mine on recirculating it defogs. When I put it on fresh air it gets very foggy, I live in a humid climate.

Just a general note not specifically related to your great videos Sara. I recently saw on Wham Bam Tesla cam where a Tesla owner’s bedroom was just on the other side of the wall to his garage and his phone was close enough that the Bluetooth kept the car unlocked and somebody rifled through the car! I need to test that out with my car because my phone and I sleep about 40 feet from the car which potentially is within Bluetooth range!! 😳

Perfect summary! I still cannot get the Dashcam to work properly, even after doing a 7-pass erasure of the USB flash drive; the cam icon will show recording only when parked and Sentry Mode is selected. Some kind of corruption: one persistent Sentry clip (triggered in car hauler interior) defies erasing, keeps coming back. On an RV trip now with key cards unwisely left at home, will attempt Factory Reset after return. I swear, in many ways, this is more complicated than the Boeing 777 controls! Superb way of simplifying, describing the latest update.

I have a 2013 MS and a 2018 M3. It's become a standard operation procedure for me to go and reboot either vehicle after a software update to avoid some of the bugs that I used to come across after a SW update.
@SaraJAwesome
2 жыл бұрын
✅✅✅✅👆👆👆That’s really smart. After going through this myself and then luckily helping so many people fix problem by rebooting, I will be doing the same thing from now on. I can’t believe how many people reached out in the comments with problems and the different reboots ACTUALLY fixed all the issues! It’s crazy and amazing at the same time. Do you do it after every update or just the big ones? I haven’t ever really had any bugs after the small updates. Except once my charge port door was acting funny for a while and fixed itself. But I’m not sure if it was related to an update or not. But it did fix itself so had to be software not hardware.
@wkrbtg9
2 жыл бұрын
@@SaraJAwesome Hi Sara, I generally do the reboot after all SW updates just as a precaution. Generally, over the years, I felt like bugs would occur about 25% of the time after SW upgrades. I come from the IT world and have had to work with all the standard operating systems, Windows, Linux, IOS, etc. Rebooting the OS will clear cache memory, scratch pad memory, etc and allow the OS clean up temp files and reboot the operating from a known state. Many computer issues (especially with windows) can be resolved or eliminated with reboots. I can't say exactly why two reboots seems to take care of lots of little issues, but I suspect it has to do with memory management and residual tmp files left over after SW download and upgrade. Anyhow, the procedure seems to work and has saved me from aggravation after an upgrade. BTW keep up the great work. You are addressing lots of areas that affect new and more experienced owners alike.
@SaraJAwesome

🤩🤩🤩🤩🤯🤯🤯🤯 ✅✅✅This is AWESOME! So much great information and insight here! I hope a lot of people read this comment! Before I got my TESLA I didn’t care about computer stuff and I hated math. Now it’s fascinating! And it’s all connected and I love it! I keep trying to show my kids now that this stuff can be really interesting and actually applied to things we use and love. So I have had quite a few people tell me they hate the new software v11, and that they are going to refuse to download it or that they want to try to skip downloading it. I tell them that I personally love about 90% of the update, but that I understand their frustration. I also told them gently that I don’t suggest trying to avoid downloading it or trying to skip it if they even can do that.. which I don’t think they can because these uodate piggyback off each other. And if they could download new updates and skip this one they’re likely to mess something up because the software upgrades in the future will obviously be designed to be compatible with the currently v11. And all this stuff effects hardware function too.. like our locks and doors etc.. what’s your take on this? I bet you have a way better than answer than I do. I’m not educated in any of that stuff. I’m just learning as I go.

@@SaraJAwesome Yes, v11 interface is soooo different. Its taken me a while to locate many of the common functions and many require extra steps to get to. Not great, but a compromise for other objectives in the UI. As you pointed out, voice commands are a short cut that many Tesla owners do not use. I use voice commands a lot for things like cabin temp, seat heaters, etc, which allow me to keep my eyes on the road and hands on the wheel. I really think voice commands are hugely overlooked feature. I think your assessment is spot on in that you really cannot avoid the SW upgrades for long as bug fixes, feature updates and safety updates are rolled into the updates. Tesla is not perfect and they do make their share of mistakes, but generally over time with enough user input, they generally do correct them. If you view Ryan Shaw's channel, he just posted a great video on mistakes that Tesla has made over the years. kzitem.info/news/bejne/lYannmuoroSApnY I live near the Fremont factory and know several Tesla employees so I have a good feeling on how the company works. Their engineering, manufacturing prowess and first principals approach to things is unique to the auto industry which allows Tesla to stay ahead of everyone else. On the other hand, Tesla has other issues in quality control, paint quality, service, customer support, etc which have persisted over the years. No company is perfect but I'm a huge Tesla fan just because of the forward looking engineering, systems integration and technological approach.

Put HVAC on Auto, then everything is on Auto. Say, the fan is too loud, so you change it, or touch Auto button to manual. At this point, the recir. button is still on Auto. If the recir. button is faded out either faded blue or faded outline, then it is running Auto. It will automatically switch on/off the recir. If you touch the recir. button either on or off, then the faded color will become normal color, which means manual mode, and it will not switch on/off the recir automatically. Personally, I like HVAC on manual mode, except the recir. button. It even works well on the Camp mode. Keep the recir in Auto, then it will pull in fresh air time to time, and saved battery energy too.
